Happy weekend everyone! If you are new to this blog let me make you aware that Saturday is my day to post some great healthy, filling, get-me-something-to-eat-before-I-swallow-a-cheesecake-whole kind of  food. These food items are great for those of you who are trying to shed a few pounds. Myself included.  If you are looking for some fabulous tasting recipes, there are many pictures you can click along my side bar, and of course you can search my archives for some fabulous food as well. Here is what I have for you this week!
Honey Nut Shredded Wheat with Blueberries
-about 260 calories for 1 C cereal, 1/2 C 1% milk, and 1/2 C blueberries
Some days I don’t know what I would do at 3:00 in the afternoon with out a bowl of this great cereal. On occasion, do you ever feel so blasted hungry that you get a bit irritable? Irritable enough that you might want to slug the next person you see?  I never have, I was just curious about if YOU had. Anyhow….if anyone has ever felt a bit grouchy at this time of day, I have found this combo to be very filling and help full. I know it is the middle of winter, and blueberries seem hard to get your hands on. Not so. I buy them year round at Costco. They come frozen in a big 4 pound bag. They have gone down in price the past few months. I bought a bag today for about $7, but have paid as much as $10 for the same bag.
Whole Wheat toast with Peanut Butter and just a touch of honey
-about 240 calories for 1 slice whole wheat bread, 1 T peanut butter, and 1 t honey
I eat this for breakfast all the time. The fat in the peanut butter really goes a long way to keeping me full. Recently I read Jillian Michaels book Master Your Metabolism. (you all know her….she’s the one that swears a lot while she helps people become healthy and fit on The Biggest Looser) It was a really informative book. She talks a lot about eating whole foods that don’t have any Hydrogenated Fats. The peanut butter you buy in the store has a lot of these fats added. So, for the past couple of months we have been making our own. Don’t roll your eyes anyone, it is actually very easy. You need 1.Dry Roasted Peanuts and 2. A food processor. I just have a little one, but it does just fine. I add just 1 teaspoon of sugar when it’s almost done processing.
Smart Pop Kettle Corn
-30 calories for the WHOLE BAG!
You heard me. This fine treasure has 30 calories….for the whole bag. If you are trying to be Nazi careful, I suppose you could eat only 1/2 the bag and only take a 15 calorie hit. But I say, lets pull out all the stops and consume the 30. You’ve got to live a little.
Pumpkin Ice Cream
– 100 calories for 1/2 C
Well, congratulate yourself if you have made it through to the end of this long post. I saved the best for last. When I’m dieting I really try to not eat any treats…but sometimes, I just need one. I was surprised to see this in the store this week! I thought they only carried it during the holidays. But what do you know….there it was. It is worth every bite of the 100 calories it will cost you. If you can’t find the LIGHT variety, never fear. The regular version only has 120 calories for 1/2 C.
Happy Eating everyone! See you next week! Be sure and check back on Monday morning, I’ll be announcing the winner of the cookbook giveaway.
