Slim Down Saturday #3

by Jamie
Well, how are all of your New Years Resolutions coming along everyone? Can you believe January is 3 weeks old already! Time flies when you are having fun, I suppose.  I hope your dieters dreams are coming true, you aren’t feeling too deprived…and most of all I hope you are seeing some great results!

If you are new around here, just a heads up about Saturday posting. This is the day I set aside to post some of the quick healthy food choices I have come across lately. These are things I keep on hand to ward off hunger, when I am trying to shed a few pounds. Check out my archives or the picture links on my sidebar for some of my greatest, most delicious recipes.  Here’s what I have been munching on this week!

Almonds and Craisins

This is a great combination to keep on hand. I would definitely NOT consider this a meal. My appetite is was too substantial for that. However one season on the Biggest Looser they recommended keeping several little baggies full of these in your purse. I have found this little snack to ward off hunger many a day when I am out and about running errands, and don’t get a chance to have lunch until 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. It really helps keep your metabolism a running.
 Raisin Nut Bran
Recently I received some coupons from General Mills and My Blog Spark for some free cereal. I wanted to try one of their cereals that I wasn’t familiar with, so I went for this yummy Raisin Nut Bran. It is a KEEPER! The next time I was at the store I used the other coupons to buy three more boxes. It puts regular Raisin Bran to shame. It only has 180 calories per serving, and is delicious.
Recently General Mills announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. The company has already been reducing sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain. Isn’t that great! Less sugar is definitely a wonderful thing. Thanks to you General Mills.
Right now if you visit here you will find a $1 off coupon for one of four General Mills cereals.
Flatout Healthy Grain Flat bread
I found this treasure at Costco this past week. They only have 100 calories a piece, and 8 grams of fiber. That is something to be glad about. I made the wrap in the picture above with sliced turkey, 1 t crumbled bacon, 1 t cheddar cheese, spinach, red onion, tomato and Newman’s Own Honey Mustard Dressing. It was really filling, tasty and QUICK.
The Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich
Do you ever see these at the store and chuckle in your heart at the name? A skinny cow. Would I like to be a skinny cow? How about a skinny runway model, or a skinny wife, or a skinny mother….but a skinny cow? Makes you wonder doesn’t it. After I got a good chuckle out of the name, I gave them a try and I’m hoping to be a skinnier cow today. It’s hard to be a skinny runway model when you’ve got size 11 feet. I’d say the best I can hope for is…..yes, a skinny cow. Sure hope I get there sooner than later.
The ice cream sandwiches are great, by the way….

Happy Dieting everyone! Keep on with your goals! See you back here next week for some more great recipes!

I love craisins and almonds but never thought of putting them together. I sure will now. Oh & you better believe I'll be trying that cereal. I love raisin bran so i'm sure to love raisin nut bran. I like those flat bread sandwiches too. they have them at subway. I also love the skinny cow's ice cream sandwiches. I've always thought it was a silly name too. I LOVE the MINT Chocolate ones.
