Some of you may remember that back in December I was sent a great package from Pillsbury and MyBlogSpark. I was asked to create a new appetizer with Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. My readers got to vote on which kind of appetizer they would like to see me try. Most readers voted for bacon and cheese. And so, here you have it! Finally. Here. You. Have. It.
I have to admit my friends, that I totally botched the heck out of the crescent rolls on my first go around. I’m kind of a “make it from scratch” kind of chic. These premade crescent rolls really through me for a loop. I seriously could hardly get the package open the first time I tried! The crescents and I were not getting along at this point, folks. I then offended them further by leaving them in the oven too long. My family took one bite of the finished product and immediately said “Woah, Mom those are way too dry.” It wasn’t my finest cooking day, let me tell you. But I am happy to report, the crescent rolls and I have become friends. MyHandsomeHusband  came up with the idea for these  savory Mushroom and Spinach Crescent Rolls. We have already made them twice. He took them to a Pot Luck lunch at his school, and they were a big hit! You will not be disappointed in these babies. They are delicious! Thanks goes to Adam for his clever recipe.
Once the crescents and I had become friends, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to turn them into something sweet. Something a little sweet and LOVEly, just in time for Valentines Day. I will be posting these Cream Cheese Heart Crescents tomorrow. Hope to see you then!
Mushroom and Spinach Crescent Rolls
Yield: 24 rolls
2 packages Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
1 8 oz package cream cheese
1 1/2 C chopped fresh mushrooms
1/4 C diced green onion
1/4 C crumbled bacon
1/4 C chopped spinach
1 T dried onion
1 T dried parsley
1/2 t granulated garlic
1/2 t sugar
1/2 t salt
1/4 t cracked pepper
1/2 t lemon juice
1. Chop up your veggies. You want to be sure that they are all finely chopped. You don’t want anything left too big.
2. Mix all of the ingredients (except the crescent rolls) together in a small mixing bowl.
2. Spray your counter with cooking spray and unroll one package of crescent rolls on to it. Be sure that you press any of the seams together, so you don’t have any cracks in your dough. Take a rolling pin and flatten out the dough a bit.
3. Spread half of the filling on the dough.
4. At the long end, begin to roll the dough up. And no, these are not my “man hands”. I do sing (and speak for that matter) like a man, and have big feet like a man, but I do not have hairy knuckles. That is something to be grateful for. MyHandsomeHusband was assisting in these photos.
5. Use a sharp knife that has been sprayed with cooking spray to cut the dough into sections.
6. Place the pieces on a spayed cookie sheet.
7. Repeat these steps with the other package of crescent rolls.
8. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve hot from the oven!
