Sometimes do you feel like just being sloppy?
You know the kind of sloppy I’m talking about.
Leaving your clothes on the floor for a day or two (or ten).
Ignoring the pile of the dishes while you read a book.
Eating a big fat chocolate chip cookie instead of going to the gym.
You feel like this kind of sloppy…
sometimes?
Me too.
Sometimes,
I just don’t want to keep everything neat and tidy, prim and proper, full of vegetables, and perfectly organized.

PERFECTLY organized is overrated!

Sometimes I just want to take a break!
Ease on down a bit, if you catch my drift.
And then, after I’ve been sloppy for a spell….
Keeping things neat and tidy, prim and proper, full of vegetables, and SOMEWHAT organized…
PERFECTLY is something I will never obtain!
…doesn’t seem like such a burden.
Fresh energy, I guess.
I suppose that means being a bit sloppy
sometimes
is good for a gal.
Good.
In.
Deed.

I think you are going to love these Sloppy Joes!
The stars have all aligned, and I finally have a Sloppy Joe recipe I would make over and over again.
Hot diggidy dog.
It only took 3 tries…and 5 choice words. You know. Words like…”aw heck” and “darn”.These Sloppies are flavorful,
a bit tangy,
just a bit sweet and down right scrumptious.
Hope you love them!

Sloppy Joes
Time: 30 minutes to chop and cook + 1 hour to simmer
Yield: 10 sandwiches
Recipe created by Jamie Cooks It Up!
1 onion
1 green pepper
4 cloves garlic
1 T olive oil
Salt and Pepper
3 pounds ground beef
1 T Montreal Steak Seasoning
1 C ketchup
1 1/2 C Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce
3 T apple cider vinegar
1 t Worcestershire
1 t liquid smoke
3 T brown sugar
1/2 t chili powder
1 T water
1. Chop those veggies right on up.
2. Heat up a large skillet and add 1 T olive oil. Add your veggies and cover with the lid letting a bit of steam escape. Just put your lid on at an angle, folks. Cook for about 7 minutes, or until the veggies are soft.
3. Add your ground beef and 1 T Montreal Steak Seasoning. Grind a bit of salt and pepper over the top. Chop your beef all up with a spatula and let it brown.
4. Once your meat is browned add all the other ingredients to the pan. Stir them around to get it all mixed together. Let the hearty, beefy, slightly tangy, somewhat sweet and super flavorful mixture simmer on medium low for 1 hour. Those juices need time to get to know each other!
5. Serve on rolls or hamburger buns.
Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas.
Here’s to being Sloppy
sometimes!

  1. I had to come up with a simple sloppy joe recipe that wasn’t sweet and with no green peppers. My daughter in law didn’t like sloppy joes until she tried this recipe.

In skillet brown on medium high heat….
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 onion, chopped

Add 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce, 1/2 tsp. garlic salt, 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce. Stir all, turn heat to lowest, simmer until onions are tender (about 20+ minutes), stir occasionally to help thicken sauce.

  2. I live north of the Boarder and cannot find ” Bobby Rae” would their be a substitute in the Canadian market want to try this recipe. Thanks

  3. sounds awesome, can’t wait to give it a try. What BBQ sauce can I use instead??? I can’t get Sweet Baby Ray BBQ sauce in Canada. Thanks

    1. Rose,
I’m not sure what they have available in Canada, any BBQ sauce that you have tried in the past and enjoyed would work out fine. Best of luck to you!

  4. If I need to make sloppy joes for a large crowd, I would need 9 lbs of beef for 30 – 35 people?
Thanks for your advice and recipes.
