Sometimes do you feel like just being sloppy?
You know the kind of sloppy I’m talking about. 
Leaving your clothes on the floor for a day or two (or ten).
Ignoring the pile of the dishes while you read a book.
Eating a big fat chocolate chip cookie instead of going to the gym.
You feel like this kind of sloppy…
sometimes?
Me too.
Sometimes, 
I just don’t want to keep everything neat and tidy, prim and proper, full of vegetables, and perfectly organized.
 
PERFECTLY organized is overrated!
 
Sometimes I just want to take a break! 
Ease on down a bit, if you catch my drift.
And then, after I’ve been sloppy for a spell….
Keeping things neat and tidy, prim and proper, full of vegetables, and SOMEWHAT organized…
PERFECTLY is something I will never obtain!
…doesn’t seem like such a burden.
Fresh energy, I guess.
I suppose that means being a bit sloppy
sometimes 
is good for a gal.

I think you are going to love these Sloppy Joes!
The stars have all aligned, and I finally have a Sloppy Joe recipe I would make over and over again. 
Hot diggidy dog.
It only took 3 tries…and 5 choice words. You know. Words like…”aw heck” and “darn”.These Sloppies are flavorful, 
a bit tangy, 
just a bit sweet and down right scrumptious. 
Hope you love them! 
 
Sloppy Joes
Time: 30 minutes to chop and cook + 1 hour to simmer
Yield: 10 sandwiches
Recipe created by Jamie Cooks It Up! 
1 onion
1 green pepper
4 cloves garlic
1 T olive oil
Salt and Pepper
3 pounds ground beef
1 T Montreal Steak Seasoning
1 C ketchup
1 1/2 C Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce
3 T apple cider vinegar
1 t Worcestershire 
1 t liquid smoke
3 T brown sugar
1/2 t chili powder
1 T water
1. Chop those veggies right on up.
2. Heat up a large skillet and add 1 T olive oil. Add your veggies and cover with the lid letting a bit of steam escape. Just put your lid on at an angle, folks. Cook for about 7 minutes, or until the veggies are soft.
3. Add your ground beef and 1 T Montreal Steak Seasoning. Grind a bit of salt and pepper over the top. Chop your beef all up with a spatula and let it brown.
4. Once your meat is browned add all the other ingredients to the pan. Stir them around to get it all mixed together. Let the hearty, beefy, slightly tangy, somewhat sweet and super flavorful mixture simmer on medium low for 1 hour. Those juices need time to get to know each other! 
5. Serve on rolls or hamburger buns.

  1. Yum-E! This recipe is pretty close to the one I make but I am still going to try this version for sure. One thing my family likes is if I lightly butter and toast the buns in the oven for a few minutes before serving the Sloppy Joes. Makes them a little yummier when they are warm like that!

  3. I love your blog! You are my go-to girl for just about any recipe. I really respect your opinion about anything in the kitchen. So, I have a cooking, non-recipe question for you: What is your opinion on kitchen mixers? Have you used a Bosch and/or Kitchen Aid Mixer? I am currently choosing between those two.     Thanks for your kind words. I'm so glad these recipes are meeting with your approval. I do have some advice about Kitchen Aids and Bosch Mixers. I have both but use my kitchen aid 80% of the time. The only time I get my Bosch out is when I am making large batches of bread. My wheat bread, white bread and most of the time for my french bread since I usually double or quadruple the recipe. The Kitchen Aid isn't quite big enough for these recipes. However a friend of mine has used her Kitchen Aid for them, and just cuts the recipe in half. So…what this means is. I would choose depending on the size of your family. If you plan to make 5 loaves of bread every week, I'd get the Bosch. That said, I couldn't live without my Kitchen Aid. I use it almost every day. Hope this helps. They are both very good quality. I don't know of any other company that makes products as good.

  5. I made these last night for dinner – can I just say, they were a SUCCESS! My husband is very picky and usually is not a fan of my sloppy joes. He ate THREE of these babies! He also NEVER eats leftovers, but said he can't wait to have these for dinner tonight : ) I have tried quite a few of your recipes and haven't been disspaointed once! Thanks!!!

  7. Made these for dinner tonight and they were not only delicious, but also a huge hit with the harshest of critics who live in my midst! I remember my mom making Sloppy Joes from scratch when I was growing up, so these brought back comforting memories of home.

  9. Two thumbs up! We had them on Sunday and my 8 year old said that he loves every Jamie Cooks It Up recipe. My kids and husband love that I follow your blog.

    Anyway, the sloppy joes were great. I never liked them as a kid, so I haven't ever made them before, but these were delicious. Especially paired with the potatoes.
