Quite a few years ago (like 10) my oldest child was a wee 4 years old. On Mothers Day that year he came bounding home from his church class with a little Mothers Day Cookbook in his hand.
How lovely, I thought!
I really like recipes.
(Have I mentioned that to any of you?)
The recipes inside his little book were pretty special.
It was a book of favorites.
One favorite recipe for each child, told in his or her own words. Listed with the child’s name was his or her favorite recipe, a list of ingredients and instructions to make the recipe.
Following each very cute recipe description was a line were the kids got to tell their Mom what they loved most about her.
Pretty cute reading material, if you ask me….
I made some of these books for my sisters this year. (Since we have about 5 bajillion children between us, there wasn’t any trouble filling up a little old book.)

It’s hard to be nice 24/7 when you are a mom…isn’t it.
This little Mothers Day Cookbook would be a great project if you….
…Teach a school class and need a little gift for your students to take home to dear old Mom…..
…..Have a lot of grandchildren and want something special to give their Moms……
….Teach a little class of church going children and want a to put a fun gift together for their Moms….
I do believe those on the receiving end would appreciate it, indeed.
PS….while I am typing this post my
LittleTwinBoyNate is wiggling on my lap and saying…
“Hey Mom, what’s for dinner? I hope it’s spaghetti…that’s the only thing that’s good, Mom. Yucky stuff is NOT good for you. I just know it. Why can’t I play the WII anymore today…Can I have another piece of candy….sorry I just wrote all over my hand with this black pen, mom…do you think it looks pretty?”

Such a cute idea. I have one of those from years back that my daughter did in kindergarten. So funny to look at it now that she is seventeen. My favorite thing about your blog, besides the delicious recipes, is your presentation of each post. It inspires me to be a little more creative with mine.
My youngest of nine children is 18 years old. I have a collection of these precious cookbooks along with my other cookbooks. They are hilarious and bring back precious memories of times gone by. Who would think that children grow up so fast? I even have one teen grandchild. 🙂
Those homemade little cookbooks are my favorite! Unfortunately, now that I am trying to teach my growing-up-to-quickly brood of children to cook (and generally be marketable in Society), they seem to think that those little antidotes are actual recipes (Heaven help us)! Which comes to the nice most of the time part…….in my world I have earned the title of the “Fun Sucker” General (I'm working on my five stars, right now). Children are fabulous, aren't they?
Oh yes, one of my kid's teachers did this one year. I loved reading through all the “recipes”. Funny thing though, my daughter's was pretty spot on… guess she had been paying close attention when I was in the kitchen.
Such a great idea…I love this one…my hubby's a teacher (2nd grade) and I think this would be so much fun for him to do…I'm going to suggest it to him!
A side note…I've got a blog as well and am trying to figure out how to do the “print recipe” only like you have. I'm not having much luck figuring it out!:) Any help would be appreciated! my e-mail is [email protected]. Thanks…and I LOVE all your recipes!

Great gift! I love those kind of things…they're definitely treasures. I have a couple that were Mother's Day or Christmas gifts from my kids when they were in school. In one of them they shared a recipe and then had to put what they would give members of their family for Christmas. My son wrote that he would give his brother a new heart so he wasn't so mean. LOL
