So, my friends. I have been getting a lot of requests lately. Requests for “easy” dinner recipes. Recipes that can be put together in a flash… That taste pretty darn flashy as well. And so I’m always thinking…. and pondering… and wondering… What should we make? That is fast and flashy… Then, it just […]
I have mentioned before, that having twin boys who are 4 years old is pretty wonderful. Just today I had a little flashback, if you will. A memory of sorts….. My twin boys had recently mastered the art of walking. It was early in the morning and I had just gotten my older kids off to school. The phone rang. The […]

Sometimes I forget. Just how blessed and lucky I am.
So immensely blessed, to be American.
To live freely.
To choose how to worship.
To choose how to work, play and where to raise my family.
I am able to choose freely who to marry, for goodness sake!
We live in a land full of choice! So many wonderful choices are ours that we sometimes have more “good” things to choose from and participate in, than we have time for.
Two summers ago I spent several days visiting my extended family in Cedar City, Utah. While there my brother and I had the opportunity to visit a newly built Veterans Memorial.
I was so taken aback by the vast sea of names. There were just so many of them! It was extremely sobering to ponder the sacrifice that was given by so many. Not only by the men named and honored there. But by the veterans
So much sacrifice! Given by so many.
The blessed freedom I so often take for granted comes at a price.
To those of you who have served, or are currently serving in the military I soundly and sincerely thank you.
To those who have sacrificed here at home so that your loved one may serve….I stand in awe. Thank you so much.
Well Howdee there partner.
Someone might even invite you over for a BBQ!
They might say….
“Hey Good Lookin’….
You will say.
“Of course! No problem. I have some really great salad recipes floating around. Be happy to.”
And as you and I both know, all good BBQs end with
a killer dessert or two, or three.
So here is the thing.
Should a person purchase 50 pounds of chicken if it’s $2.00 per pound?
Just say….”Of course not! That is not a good deal.”
To buy, or not to buy. How is a gal to know?
The best news!
You don’t have to go to 5 different stores and clip 5,000 coupons to get good deals on all of the items you need. Extra time doesn’t grow on trees you know. (If you see some growing somewhere, let me know. Will ya?) Shopping at 5 different grocery stores each week can give a girl a real headache.
Now for the best old news.
Walmart will price match. This is not a joke. I do it all of the time!
This past week I checked in with Deals to Meals...saw that a grocery store called Rancho Market had Limes for 33 cents a pound. They had a lot of other really great deals as well. I made out my weekly grocery store list, writing all of the prices I wanted to match on the list.
Then I hustled myself down to my local Walmart to do my weekly shopping. When I got to the check out stand I politely said to the checker….
“I have some price matching to do on my produce.”
“Ok, no problem. How much for the limes?” was her reply.
I’m not kidding. That’s how it works. At least at the Walmart I frequent. They are really great about ad matching. I usually take the grocery store ads with me, just in case they want to check the price I am quoting. They hardly EVER ask to see them.
I ended up purchasing 8 limes for 48 cents. It did feel a little bit like highway robbery. But it wasn’t. It was all legit. And that’s the truth of it.

What’s a poor girl to do, in this very precarious situation!
Both twins started toddling around the kitchen floor marking their paths with gooey, sticky, crackly tracks.
Every time I made a move to pick them up I marked the floor with gooey, sticky, crackly tracks.
What’s a poor girl to do!
Snatch those boys up and mark the path to the kitchen sink, that’s what! We got ourselves cleaned up. (which was a very contorted kind of thing in it’s own right…trying to get my feet into the kitchen sink….while keeping two toddlers from falling off the counter….yikes….don’t picture it for too long. I’m sure it was shockingly unattractive!!) Once sufficiently cleaned up, I maneuvered my way around the mess and set the two boys in the joining room. Then it was mother versus the mess. Gooey, sticky, crackly and all. What a glamorous profession. My college degree was really paying off.
Exactly 45 seconds later, Aaron toddled his sweet self into my view, and what do you know…the small child had exactly 10 wrapped cough drops in his
And ten more in his
Boy, this morning is getting good. Really good.
After prying the gooey, sticky, paper crackly cough drops out of his mouth I looked up to see…
Nate. Who had quietly gotten the mop out, lugged it into the kitchen and plunged it into the gooey, sticky and crackly egg mess that was still all over the floor. What a fine helper.
Fine, indeed. The gooey, and sticky and crackly kind of fine.
What’s a poor girl to do in this situation!
Sit down and laugh, that’s what. Until she looked up to see that some small child had painted brown mascara all over her lovely white cushioned bench.
Then the poor girl may or may not have cried a little.
And cleaned it all up.
And found herself in need of a morning nap.
And then….a little while later, after she had put her feet up for a spell, she chuckled a little.
And then she thought to herself……
…….I live in a wonderful world.
Wonderfully cute, and funny, and not boring (except the laundry and dishes and the toilet bowl cleaning) and exhausting, and rewarding and fun and precious and PRICELESS.
Even when it’s gooey and sticky and crackly.
You want the sauce to be to be a little bit thicker than pudding. Remove the sauce from the heat. Stir in a few drops of red food coloring if you choose. Pour the sauce into a bowl, pop it in the fridge and let it chill out for a while. You want it to reach room temperature or cooler before you pour it over your berries.
