The Land of the Free

by Jamie

Sometimes I forget. Just how blessed and lucky I am.
So immensely blessed, to be American.
To live freely.
To choose how to worship.
To choose how to work, play and where to raise my family.
I am able to choose freely who to marry, for goodness sake!

We live in a land full of choice! So many wonderful choices are ours that we sometimes have more “good” things to choose from and participate in, than we have time for.

Imagine that.

Two summers ago I spent several days visiting my extended family in Cedar City, Utah. While there my brother and I had the opportunity to visit a newly built Veterans Memorial.

My Grandpa

I was so taken aback by the vast sea of names. There were just so many of them! It was extremely sobering to ponder the sacrifice that was given by so many. Not only by the men named and honored there. But by the veterans
wives
mothers
fathers
children…..

So much sacrifice! Given by so many.

The blessed freedom I so often take for granted comes at a price.

To those of you who have served, or are currently serving in the military I soundly and sincerely thank you.

To those who have sacrificed here at home so that your loved one may serve….I stand in awe. Thank you so much.

You
are
paying
my
way.

This made me misty!! My brother in law is in the Army, and my sister is pregnant now, with his possible deployment looming. I don't know how they do it. Thank you for your beautiful words and pictures.

What a wonderful reminder. I have a brother you in August will have served for 25 years in the US Army with several deployments to Afghanistan among many others. I have an 8X11 picture of him in my office in my line of sight to remind me of how lucky I am to live in this country and to pray for all the men and women who are serving as well as those who support them.
