Now, let’s make this bag…
No Sew Summer Bag
Time: about 1 hour
Yield: 2 bags
MATERIALS NEEDED
1/2 yard striped fabric 45 inches wide
1/2 yard floral fabric 45 inches wide
scissors
cutting board, ruler and cutting wheel (totally optional)
1. Lay your striped fabric out, wrong sides together. Cut TWO one inch strips from the long end of the fabric. PLEASE NOTE….the picture above only shows a single 1 inch strip. You will need two of these. Cut each one inch strip in half giving you four 1/2 inch strips. These will be used for the handle.
2. Lay the floral fabric out, wrong sides together. Follow the instructions in step 1, cutting yourself four 1/2 inch strips.
3. Cut the striped fabric in half, right along the fold of the fabric giving you two 17 inch squares. (This is a rough measurement. If you are off by an inch or two in either direction…it’s not a problem.) Repeat this step with the floral fabric.
4. Place one of the striped pieces with a floral piece, wrong sides together.
If they aren’t totally even….do not despair! Just trim the ends to make them the same size.
5. Cut a 3 1/2 inch square from the bottom corners of the layered fabric.
6. Pin the fabric together in several spots.
7. Using a pair of scissors cut 3/4 inch strips along the sides and bottom of the fabrics.
8. Tie the floral fabric to the striped fabric all along the sides and the bottom. Give each tie a double knot….or in other words, tie them twice. Leave the top strips on either side of the purse untied. You will use these strips to tie the handle to the purse.
9. Take a piece of tape and fasten three of your 1/2 inch strips to a hard surface.
10. Braid the strips together to make your handle. Leave about 3 inches on both ends of the handle un-braided.
11. Tie the handle into each side of the bag.
12. To make the second bag just repeat steps 3-11.
There you have it!
Have a fun time!!!!!

This is cute and totally something I would have made when I was a youngster. I love sewing, crafting, cooking, gardening, and much more. Not so much the staring at the wall thing though =). Looks great!

What a cute bag! My favorite hobby is stitching (cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, etc.).
Very cute bag! Love the fabric. (BTW..thanks for the link to Novelty Quilt Fabric!)
It's hard to choose one hobby (according to the husband, I have too many) but I think sewing is at the top of my list of favorites. I've been sewing since I was 8. I'll sew just about anything except quilts. I am so not a quilter (I leave that to my sister) 🙂 Baking runs a close second to sewing.

I can only pick ONE hobby? That's hard. I'd probably have to go with reading. (I also enjoy writing, cooking, sewing, drawing, movies…knew I could get more than one in!)
Cute bag. I am going to try it with my little girls. Hobbies…all that you mentioned. I really like to do a little of everything. Sometimes I have to say a favorite quote… “I can do anything I want, I just can't do everything I want.”
