Now, let’s get busy and make this bread, shall we?

Laura’s Glazed Poppy Seed Bread
Time: 15 minutes prep + 45-55 minutes to bake
Yield: 2 loaves
3 C flour
1 1/2 t salt
1 1/2 t baking powder
2 1/2 C sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 C milk
1 1/2 t almond extract
1 1/2 t vanilla extract
1 1/2 t butter flavoring
1 C + 2 T canola oil
1/4 C poppy seeds
GLAZE:
3/4 C sugar
1/4 C freshly squeezed orange juice
1 1/2 t vanilla
1/2 t butter flavoring
1/2 t almond extract

1. Stir your flour, salt, baking powder and sugar together in a medium sized mixing bowl with a wire whisk.

Just look at those beautiful flavorings……

2. In a separate mixing bowl whisk up your eggs until they are nice and frothy. Add the milk, vanilla, almond extract, butter flavoring and oil.
Wisk it all together until its nicely combined.

3. Pour in your poppy seeds and give it another whisking to incorporate.

4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry.

Using a wooden spoon, stir everything together just until combined. You don’t want a lot of flour clumps, but you don’t want to over mix here either.

5. Take a piece of parchment paper and trace the shape of the bottom of your pan onto it with a pencil. Fold the paper over and cut two pieces out, using the pencil tracing as a guide.

6. Place the cut paper into the bottom of your pans and spray it with cooking spray. It works best if you use a cooking spray that has flour in it. Baker’s Joy works like a charm. Pam Cooking Spray also has a cooking spray with added flour. Buy one…you won’t be sorry.

7. Pour the batter into your pans. Bake at 350 for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

8. While the bread is baking, make the glaze. It’s super easy! Juice your orange into a small mixing bowl. Add all other ingredients and stir it well.

9. When your bread is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 3 minutes. Run a knife around the edges of the pan and then carefully dump the bread out of the pans and onto a cooling rack. Place a large cookie sheet under your cooling rack.
10. Give your glaze a few stirs to be sure all ingredients are mixed together and then pour it over the top of your bread. Brush the glaze that falls onto the cookie sheet over the loaves. Let the bread sit for about 10 minutes to soak up the glaze. Then dig in my friend…..enjoy a little trip to heaven today!

Enjoy!

I love your recipes, and this giveaway is awesome. My favorite summertime meal is chicken salad sandwiches. Ok they're always my favorite, but there's a special plus in not having to use the oven, stove, or even grill when it's miserably hot (I'm in Alabama) and it does get hot.

We love grilling out in the summer! Just slice up some fresh watermelon or cantaloupe to go along with dinner and whip up a potato salad…yum!

Oooh, that does look yummy! Orange glaze is genius, I was so expecting lemon. LOL

My favorite simple summertime meal is a nice cool salad with lots of fresh veggies and leftover grilled chicken (we always grill extra, slice it and throw it in the freezer) topped with a simple balsamic dressing (unless your one of my kids then it's drenched in ranch). Yummy and no heating up the kitchen.

Thanks for the introduction to another wonderful blog!

We love to grill during the summer to keep the heat out of the kitchen.

I've made that amazing bread numerous times. It's my favorite. I poke holes in the top of the bread with a fork before pouring the glaze on. Yummy!

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web berswor. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

ONe of my daughters is home for the summer and lemon poppy seed is her fave! Willhave to try this one while she is here.

I like making egg salad sandwiches when it is really hot…made with our very own fresh eggs and chives. Sometimes we get pretty egged out and I sell our excess eggs to a local restaurant.

My favorite summer recipe is Sweet and Sour Meatballs that I just through all the ingredients together, put in microwave for a few minutes and then pour over meatballs in the crockpot. We eat them with rice. They are so easy because I used frozen meatballs.
I love simple recipes so thanks for letting me know about this other blog.

Hello, I signed up to receive Real Mom Kitchen. One of the best, quickest and easiest meals to whip up is a taco salad. Crunchy Doritos nacho chips on the bottom smooshed up , fresh veggies, ground beef and some cool watermelon for dessert (with a slice of poppy seed bread, perhaps !?) Thanks, Nisey

Hi Jamie! Your blog and Laura's are two of my favorites and I make something from each one at least once a week. Delicious stuff! I've already signed up for her blog. I've made this poppyseed bread before and it is amazing! As for my favorite summertime meal, you can't get much easier…it's what I call Feta Pasta and it's basically the pasta of your choice cooked, drained and tossed with about 1/4 c of olive oil which has been warmed with a garlic clove in it to infuse it (discard the garlic before serving). Then you add a tomato which has been chopped into pieces, a generous helping of feta cheese (1 c or so) and 1-2T of Italian seasoning. It's good hot or cold. you can also make it fancier by adding sauteed mushrooms and spinach as well.
Thanks!

Pam K.
