For the past 3 1/2 years it’s been my pleasure to serve as a Faith in God leader to the 8-9 year old girls in my ward (LDS church group). We meet every other Thursday for an hour. We make crafts, learn basic cooking skills, talk about great books to read, sew a little, discuss the importance of scripture study and the gospel, talk and visit about the girls’ lives, and mostly just enjoy each others company. I love it, truly. It’s a great time. The girls are darling and wonderful. (And sometimes rambunctious, which is ok. They are 8 and 9 years old, after all).

This past Thursday we took a little field trip to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. It’s only about a 7 minute drive from our homes. Can you believe how lucky we are to have one so close! It’s amazing.

We snapped a few pictures of these lovely girls outside the temple on the grounds.

The temple workers were kind enough to let us come and sit for a few minutes in the gorgeous waiting room. We visited with the girls about the importance of the temple and how it functions as a sacred place of worship, peace and holiness. There was a beautiful, calm feeling inside the temple. It was wonderful to watch these (sometimes wiggly, and rowdy) young girls be still, and recognize the sacredness and peace the temple offers.

Once outside the girls wrote their feelings and perceptions down in a journal. It was wonderful and by far the best hour I’d spent throughout the entire week.

  1. I think this is the sweetest idea. I need to use it with my young women. I love that you had them write down their thoughts.

  2. I love this! I’m in charge of cleaning that beautiful temple and have had the pleasure of meeting you there cleaning. It makes me happy to see those young girls excited about being there!
