Last summer my dear friend Julie told me about a party she went to where they served some yummy dessert waffles, made out of a cake mixes! Seriously, doesn’t that sound awesome! I have been eager to try my hand at them to test the texture and flavor and see what kind of yummy things would be good to top them with and I’m happy to report that they are so good, you guys. All you have to do is choose a cake mix flavor, add the correct amount of water, oil and eggs listed on the back of the box, fire up your waffle iron and cook them up. Now that’s fun. At least, I thought it was pretty fun and so super easy!  I got a little creative and made three different flavors, adding different toppings and flavors of ice cream to each I thought paired nicely. It was a happy day in my kitchen, gang. 🙂 Details on flavor combinations below.

These Dessert Waffles would be awesome to make as simple Sunday Night Treat, or as a fun party idea. You could make a bunch of different flavors and then set out all kinds of different ice creams, syrup and toppings. The sky is the limit here, friends! Hope some of you get a chance to try them! I would love to hear what kind of flavors and toppings you enjoy!

Add the ingredients listed on the back of the box. Mix with a hand mixer (or in your large stand mixer) on low for 30 seconds. Scrape the bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula and mix for 2 minutes on medium high-speed. This really helps the batter to thicken up and get nice and glossy for you.

Heat your waffle iron up until it’s nice and hot. Spray it generously with cooking spray and pour some batter in. Cook until done. They will be a bit softer than regular waffles when they are done, so take care when you remove them from the iron. They will firm up once the begin to cool and will have a slightly crisp exterior. Not quite as crispy as regular waffles, but crisp enough. One box of cake mix yields about 12 full sized waffles.

Now, here are the flavor combinations I tried out. I don’t have a clear favorite, they were all so good!

Red Velvet Cheesecake Waffles

Red Velvet Waffles topped with Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream, Strawberries and Whipped Cream. I’m not a huge Red Velvet fan, I have to admit…but these were so good. The Cheesecake Ice Cream was a great addition. You could drizzle chocolate syrup over the top as well. Yum!

Lemon Berry Waffles

Lemon Waffles topped with vanilla ice cream, my homemade Berry Syrup (recipe HERE) and fresh berries. Man, these are so super good!

Mint Chocolate Chip Waffles from Jamie Cooks It Up!

Chocolate Waffles, topped with Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, Chocolate Syrup (life changing homemade hot fudge recipe found HERE) and whipped cream. Yum!
