Friday’s Report: 25 Favorite Picture Books for Preschool and Early Elementary Kids

by Jamie

When I was growing up we spent a ton of time at the library. My dear mom is an avid reader and has a great passion for children’s literature. We spent hours of time reading, especially during the summer months. We would journey to the public library and come home with giant stacks of books. When we were too young to read ourselves, Mom read to us…and read to us and read to us. It’s something I will always be grateful for and has been a huge influence on my life for the better. Not only did it fill my mind with adventure, knowledge, fun, compassion and beauty (as well as a love for reading)… it gave us a reason to snuggle close and be together. It’s the time spent with each other that I loved the most.

Reading to my own kids has been something I’ve loved as well. Treasured time. 🙂 Though my  kids are too old to read picture books anymore (sniff…my second born graduated from high school yesterday! A post about that coming up soon…),  I know many of you have little ones, or grand-kids, or nieces and nephews that you love and might have reason to enjoy some of the amazing books I brought along to share with you all today. Summer is upon us! Let the reading begin, right. 🙂 I have to admit, the library is still one of my favorite spots and I still come home with giant stacks of books for myself and my people. Book nerd, here. Truly.

Later on in the summer I’ll be sharing a couple more Book Recommendation posts, one will include a post of great books for upper elementary grades, and the other will be my semi-annual list of book recommendations for adults (I have some fantastic reads to share with you!) If you are looking for some of my past recommendations, click HERE.

Ok, on to the list! The following are 25 picture books that I adore, my kids adore and have been read and re-read at our house more times than I can count. Seriously. We have read them until they are worn out and battered. They are our favorites. Hope some of you find this list useful! Grab a few books and cuddle up with your little ones this summer.

Enjoy!

The Mitten  and Berlioz the Bear and Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett

Jan Brett books are seriously so beautiful. The illustrations are legitimate works of art. Not only is each page full of color, detail and design, but the border of each page is intricately created with tips and clues as to where the story is going. Love these. She has many, many more books as well. You can find more information about her and her books HERE. There are some fun coloring pages and activities for kids on her website as well.

The Napping House  and Heckedy Peg  and Ten Little Fish  and Alphabet Adventure and Piggies and The Big Hungry Bear by Audrey and Don Wood

I can’t say enough good things about this author and illustrator. They have many more than these 6 books, you can find more information of their work HERE.

I know many of you are familiar with Munsch’s book Love you Forever. A classic, to be sure. It totally gets me teary every time and is most definitely the authors most popular book. However, did you know he has also written many, many hilarious books that my kids and I have loved over the years. The two pictures above are just a sampling. You can read more about his work HERE.

I love Audrey Wood and Robert Munsch but haven’t read a couple of these. Just put a bunch of their books on hold at the library. Thanks!

Our mom read to us endlessly when we were growing up, too. One of my very favorite parts of my childhood. I have only heard of two books in your list, so I’ll have to see about the others. We loved the Richard Scarry books, The Grouchy Ladybug and Wacky Wednesday, to name a few. Thanks for the great list.

I look at these pictures from children’s books and immediately return to my childhood. My parents instilled in me a love of reading. This love has stayed with me now. I can’t sleep unless I read 10 pages of a book. I find this very useful for expanding vocabulary and for expanding the worldview. And it helps me in my work. I am a writer. I am writing an essay for students on one of the services from the site Best Writers Online and I dream of writing my own book in the future.

We are all united by one fact, all students must fill out any documents or write essays in which we constantly make grammatical mistakes and this is a fact that is very difficult to avoid. Therefore, read more https://notesread.com/how-to-write-a-research-paper-without-grammar-mistakes/ about how you can write a research paper without grammatical errors. After reading this article, you will also be able to use style guides, additional tips, and more. I hope I was able to help you and gave you some useful advice that you will use.

One of my favorite picture books for young children is “How Do Dinosaurs Play With Their Friends” by Cynthia Rylant. I love the evocative imagery, and I think that children will really connect with this book. I once asked the company https://writeanypapers.com/ to write me this essay because the topic was very interesting but difficult! The best snow is shy and waits for people to come home. It is also cheerful, so kids will feel more inclined to talk about their worries. My kids love the ending of this book, too.
