So you may be thinking….what in the world is a Moogie, and what does it have to do with mush? Well, all I can tell you is that this cracked wheat cereal is a recipe my father in law made for his kids a lot when they were growing up. He lived for 2 years in Japan, and learned how to make it there. It is a fantastic way to use up all of that wheat you are storing, and it’s very healthy and filling. We use a bit of Splenda along with sugar, so it’s not too high in calorie. You don’t need a wheat grinder to grind up the wheat kernels, just a blender. However, once wheat is cracked it doesn’t have a very long shelf life, so put any extra cracked wheat into a Ziploc bag and put it in the freezer. This recipe makes about 8 servings.
1. Crack your wheat in a blender. Don’t add more than about 2 cups at a time. It should be the right texture after about 4 minutes.
2. Combine the water, salt, vanilla and raisins in a sauce pan and bring to a boil.

2 years in Japan you say?
My dad lived in Japan for 3 years from 1958 to 1961, and learned to make moogie. In fact it was me remembering him making it that led me to want to confirm this tecipie, and it’s almost exactly what you put here. Except he would use stonegrond whole wheat and cinnamon along with the raisins and vanilla.
Thanks
This was very useful, thank you
