Molten Lava Cake

by Jamie
Wow! That picture’s bright enough to knock your socks off, isn’t it!
It just shouts out….
Eat me!
Eat me!
Rah Rah!
Eat me!
No, I wasn’t a cheer leader in high school.
Those of you who know me from high school are nodding your head and thinking…
“Nope, no way (chuckle, chortle) that girl is not coordinated. Isn’t she the one with the husky male singing voice and really big feet?”
Those two qualities alone do not a cheer leader make.
But if I could cheer for this fabulous Molten Lava Cake, I would!
It is seriously like a party in your mouth my friends.
A fun old party.
This recipe makes 8 ramekins full of heavenly chocolate bliss.
(You could easily 1/2 the recipe if you only want 4 ramekins full of chocolate bliss.)
When your fork hits the center of the cake it just oozes out all over your plate….
I told you it was going to be a party in your mouth.
Molten Lava Cake
Yield: 8 Servings
Time: 40 minutes

 Recipe adapted from: Kraft Foods

8 squares Baker’s Semi Sweet Chocolate
1 C butter (2 sticks)
2 C + 2 T powdered sugar
4 eggs
4 egg yolks
1 t vanilla
dash salt
12 T flour

1. In a medium sized microwaveable dish melt your chocolate and butter. Heat it up in 1 minute intervals, taking it out and stirring between each interval.
2. When it’s nice and melted stir it all around to incorporate the butter into the chocolate.
3. Add the powdered sugar and stir to incorporate.
4. Add the eggs and egg yolks and blend them in with a wire whisk. Add the vanilla and salt and stir.
5. Stir in the flour.

6. Generously butter the insides of the Ramekins.
7. Pour the batter into the cups.
8. Bake at 425 degrees for 13 to 14 minutes. You want the out sides to be firm, but the center to be soft. Take them out of the oven and let the cute little darlings just sit there for a minute or two.
9. Run a knife around the edge of the dish and turn it upside down on your serving plate. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy the party!

Oh how fun! I would definitely use them for an intimate dinner for two. Little mini pot pies and little lava chocolate cakes for dessert, here we come! ; D

I once made a broc and carrot terrine that would go great in these pretty little ramekins. I'd love to win them, thanks for the chance.

I would be able to make these lovely lava cakes for the first time since eating one on my anniversary two years ago! I have looked for a good recipe ever since! I have never been able to make them because I didn't have any Ramekins…

I would try making little individual chicken pot pies for all of my kids. I think they would love anything that was served in their own little personal dish.

Chili's discontinued their chocolate chip molten lava cake! It was a sad day when I found that out. I would use the ramekins to recreate my guilty pleasure.

Funny thing, everytime we go out to dinner and there are Molten Lava Cakes on the dessert menu, my husband tries to convince me that we need to order dessert. He would love it if I made them for him at home! I am thinking the ramekins would also be great as cute serving dishes for butter, sour cream, cheese, etc. Thanks Jamie!

I just bought larger ramekins to make Pazookie's in and would love to have some of the smaller ones too. They are really cute!

I would make this lava cake which when I saw the picture it was so mouth watering that I went and had a some chocolate right away 🙂 I'd also like to try making tarts, and little pot pies, it would be fun to let the kids make there own little meal in a one I think. So what else could I bake those lava cakes in, coffee cup, little pyrex dishes that would probably work right?

Heather,
Little Pyrex dishes would work. The recipe the Pioneer Woman has on her site uses those. I also read another recipe that said you could bake them in a muffin tin. However you would want to 1/2 the recipe. The recipe I have posted would make 20 cakes….well, maybe you would want 20 cakes! Good luck! Let me know how they turn out!

I would make your lava cakes, some creme brulee, more lava cakes, and more creme brulee. And when I was done eating and cooking I guess I'd have to go buy some more pants! 🙂

I'd use the ramekins for trying out this yummy lava cake recipe you just posted (!!!) and also for French Onion Soup. Probably in that order, too. 🙂

Hi there I was so excited to see this post. I am Angie Alm's Sister in law and I love your Blog but I was so excited about this Molten LAva cake and dishes. My mouth is watering. My cute son and I love going to Chili's to eat their Molten Cale and he has requested that I figure out a way to make it like that or better for his Birthday. Well I am in luck because I can try this and hopefully win a dish or two. Keep up the good work.

by midnight??? Wednesday?? Hmmm.. that's an hour from now, so maybe I won't be the absolute last one to leave a comment. Hopefully~

I would use these darling dishes to hold ice cream while eating in front of a Jazz game (or Pittsburgh Penguins!) – but I would only need two, so if there's a set of 4, I'd use the other two to grow some gorgeous strawberry plants!!!!! (I have NO dirt to plant anything in outside, it's all cement. Which is not a complaint, I'm grateful for the cement at this time, so it's simply an observation – I gotta get something to grow strawberries in!)

Great website, thank you for all the work/play you do here!

p.s. I will most certainly make this Lava Cake, but definitely plant strawberry plants too~

About how many grams/pounds of semi sweet chocolate is that? I want to buy bulk semi sweet chocolate from Trader Joe’s (they have 5lb packs for $5 each, killer deal).

I’ve been following your blog for at least a year now. I’m not even a recipe blog person, but I can’t live without your recipes. =)
