Deals to Meals Giveaway!

So here is the thing.

Groceries are getting expensive.
Milk, butter, eggs, meat, produce….it seems that the prices go up every time I go to the store. Don’t they know I’ve got a barrel full of people to feed? Sheesh. Get serious. I’m a girl on a budget for heavens sake.
So here’s the thing.
A girl on a budget (with a food blog and 7 people to feed) has to be careful how she spends her grocery pennies. I need to find great  deals every time I hit the store. I try and only purchase items that are on sale, then I buy a whole slew of them. Good for my budget, and for my food storage. To make the most of this kind of shopping you need to have a little bit of knowledge. You’ve got to know what a good deal is! To buy, or not to buy. That is the question.

Should a person purchase 50 pounds of chicken if it’s $2.00 per pound?
Just say….”Of course not! That is not a good deal.”

Does one purchase 50 boxes of Captain Crunch if it’s $1.00 per box. “Why yes!” would be the appropriate answer here.

To buy, or not to buy. How is a gal to know?

And now for a really cool thing…
There is a wonderful website called Deals to Meals that is set up specifically to help people navigate the grocery store world. Grocery store deals are posted there each week. You have the option of  viewing any of the stores around your area. A rating system is used to help you know if the deal is great (something you should stock up on) or if the deal is average. (Better to leave it until next time).

The best news!
You don’t have to go to 5 different stores and clip 5,000 coupons to get good deals on all of the items you need. Extra time doesn’t grow on trees you know. (If you see some growing somewhere, let me know. Will ya?) Shopping at 5 different grocery stores each week can give a girl a real headache.

Now for the best old news.

Walmart will price match. This is not a joke. I do it all of the time!
This past week I checked in with Deals to Meals...saw that a grocery store called Rancho Market had Limes for 33 cents a pound. They had a lot of other really great deals as well. I made out my weekly grocery store list, writing all of the prices I wanted to match on the list.

Then I hustled myself down to my local Walmart to do my weekly shopping. When I got to the check out stand I politely said to the checker….

“I have some price matching to do on my produce.”
“Ok, no problem. How much for the limes?” was her reply.

I’m not kidding. That’s how it works. At least at the Walmart I frequent. They are really great about ad matching. I usually take the grocery store ads with me, just in case they want to check the price I am quoting. They hardly EVER ask to see them.

I ended up purchasing 8 limes for 48 cents. It did feel a little bit like highway robbery. But it wasn’t. It was all legit. And that’s the truth of it.

everything! prices go up and packaging gets smaller. Yes – I've noticed, but I think the people packaging the food think they're fooling us. It's outrageous! If I had to pick one thing it would be snack foods. Glad I don't have to say diapers anymore. Whew! [email protected]

I would love to save on diapers. I have a ten year old special needs child, who I have no choice but to pay the outrageous price of $115 a month for. But also have a two year old still in diapers and would like to find good quality diapers for a great price!!

I would like to save money on baking items (powdered sugar, brown sugar, flour, butter, cream cheese, etc.). I love baking for my neighbors, but it is starting to get really expensive.

I love to price match at WalMart now since I finally found a cashier that knows what she is doing!!!

This just might be what I need to help me with my monthly grocery budget, only if there was a super Walmart in my city 🙁

I'm always looking for lower prices on meat, cheese and canned goods.

I love to cook and with the prices these days my hubby tries to get me to buy top roman and frozen pizza. That does not work for me. I would like to get deals on fruits and meats mostly. AND two little ones in diapers is breaking me.

Uh, Can I say everything?!? But especially things like tomatoes, blueberries and avocados which are ridiculous now! Oh, and meat, diapers, organic and natural foods, to name a few. 🙂

I would like to save on produce mostly, because you have to have that! We usually only eat the meat, cereal, and snacks we can find on sale though, so it would be nice to get those a little cheaper sometimes!

I'd love to save on everything, but probably topping my list is produce right now. I'm learning with meat and dairy what prices are good, but still having a harder time with produce. I'm trying to get my family to eat more of it, but it is so pricey.
I've read a lot of books on the subject lately, and even tried to start my own price book to compare prices, but it is so much work – it would be way easier to let Deals to meals do it for me.

Hi. I wish I was a “coupon” person or a price matcher…but I'm not. That is why I love Deals to Meals. I can easily just print out the best prices and shop! It is hard finding meats at a good price…or brand names!

I am obviously a shopping idiot. I think I answered yes when you asked if you'd buy 50 lbs of chicken for $2/lb. So, that being said…I'd like to save money on ANY groceries. I must not know the difference!
