Hello to all of you fine readers!
This summer, each Wednesday I have been posting fun kitchen activities and project for kids.

Today, as it is Wednesday…
I have another kid lovin’ recipe for you.
I made these Ice Cream Cake Cones while we were at Bear Lake this past week. We have been spending a lot of time here this summer with our extended family.
And since my kids have been blessed with 5 million cousins,
I figured…why not make these fun treats to share with the masses.
The kids gave them the thumbs up.
Hope you love them as well!
Ice Cream Cake Cones
Time: 30 min. hands on + 13-15 min. baking
Yield: 28-30 servings
Recipe from Betty Crocker
***PLEASE NOTE: If you are planning to serve these at a party I suggest dropping by a local fast food restaurant and picking up several cone holders. If not, you may be faced with cones falling, tipping and crashing all over tarnation. THAT does not a happy hostess make. Do yourself a favor and get the cone holders.
1 Party Rainbow Chip Cake Mix + ingredients to make the cake
2   18 count boxes of Color Cup Ice Cream Cones
1-2 jars Rainbow Chip Frosting
Rainbow Sprinkles

1. In a large mixing bowl combine cake mix and the ingredient listed on the back of the box (water…eggs….oil…you know them. Standards that they are.) Beat the mixture on low for 30 seconds. Scrape the bottom of your bowl and then mix it on medium speed for at least 2 minutes.
2. Line your muffin tins with cupcake liners and spray them generously with cooking spray.
3. Pour the batter into the baking cups. ONLY FILL THEM HALF WAY FULL. I’m serious here….

Do you want this to happen to you?
Heavens no!
Don’t put yourself in a position where you might let a few curse words slip.
We don’t want any of that.

Just fill the cups half way full, instead of 2/3 of the way full.
All will be well and lovely.
4. Stack the cones ontop of the batter. Bake at 350 for about 13-15 minutes being careful not to let the batter burn.
5. Remove the cake cones from the oven and let them cool completely.

6. When you are ready to frost them, carefully remove the cupcake liner.
Vwalla…..
7. Generously frost the cake portion of the cone.
Then sprinkle on your colorful sprinkles. If you want the whole cake portion to be covered in sprinkles, pour the sprinkles onto a small plate and then carefully dip the top of each cone into the sprinkles.

Enjoy!

What can a person do with 5 million cousins?
Just party on down, I suppose.
Hope you are enjoying your summer!

  1. Thanks for the memory! I used to do these when my kids were little, but had forgotten all about them (the cupcakes, not the kids). I'll have to make them for my grandsons. They'll have a blast.

  2. Una idea muy buena, seguro que a mis niñas les va a encantar.
    Gracias por compartir. Un saludo.

  3. Hah! Wonderful! ive seen these before but never with such clear photos on how to make them, really great post 🙂 They look absolutely fabulous, im sure the receivers were elated 🙂

  4. A much easier method that trying to fill the cones themselves and trying to keep them from toppling over in the oven! If it ever cools off here so I can bake I'm definitely going to be making these with the kids.

  5. My son's 2nd birthday is coming up next month, and I've been wanting to make these for him. As such, I've been researching recipes on the best way to do this, and yours is by far the easiest — and so it will be the one I'll try. THANK YOU for posting this!

  6. I just found my favorite recipe blog!!! This is wonderful! Tonight I made the zuppa toscana soup and the Olive Garden Breadsticks and I was amazed at how much they tasted like the real thing. Thank you and I know my famiy thanks you. 🙂

  7. I have made these cupcake cones and I loved them, however, the cones always seem to get soggy. Any ideas what I am doing wrong.
