Hearty Spaghetti Sauce

by Jamie

Ah, the beauty of a simple Spaghetti Dinner.

This meal can really put a smile on my face.
A smile, because it just tastes so darn good.
A grin, because every person living under this roof loves it.
And when children enjoy the dinner handed to them…
the almighty dinner hour seems to run a teensie bit smoother.
Until they finish eating and want to complain about helping with the dishes.
Which my children NEVER do, of course.
They are not the type to whine, or argue.
Rather, my exceptionally perfect children are constantly saying splendid things like…
“Brother darling, would you mind not teasing me every single minute of the day.”
and
“Sweet, beautiful mother…what a pleasant and delightful meal you have prepared for us on this chilly evening.”
and
“Dear fair sister,…would you please pass the Grey Poupon.”
I bet your kids talk like that too, don’t they.
I knew it.
That’s just how kids are.
Naturally poised and polished from sun up to sun down.

Alright so maybe not ALL of the time.
Maybe just when they are eating a Hearty Spaghetti Dinner.
Or maybe just in my dreams.
🙂  🙂  🙂

Please don’t feel overwhelmed by the ingredient list here.
Once you have the sausage browned and the onions and garlic cooked a bit…everything else just gets dumped in and left to simmer.
While you do things like help with homework and piano practice and put band aids on skinned knees and put the Grey Poupon back in the fridge after it accidentally sat out on the counter all day.

***NOTE: If you have leftover sauce it can easily be frozen and reheated for a meal in the future. End of note.***

First of all I have to thank you for single handedly bringing me to a love of cooking. I NEVER thought that was posssilbe! Or for me to be good at it! Your recipes are easy to follow, use simple ingredients and are so far 'Emily' proof! My family thanks you!!! I use at least 2 of your recipes every week. Thank you so much!!!

Now for my questions. Can you substitute ground beef and can this be frozen? Are you going to start a section on meals that can be frozen? Because I would LOVE that. It seems like I always need/want to bring a meal to someone in need and can never find anything GOOD to bring!

Hi Emily,
You can use ground beef, however the flavor of the sausage really makes this sauce wonderful. Leftovers freeze very well.
Thanks for your kind words about my site. So glad the recipes have been turning out well for you and your family. Have a great day!

I second Emily's comments about your recipes being easy to follow with simple, NORMAL ingredients! I made your pumpkin cheesecake on Saturday and have to say it's absolutely the best cheesecake recipe I have ever made. Everyone loves it. My 9-yr old nephew couldn't stop oohing and ahhing over it while he was eating his slice. 🙂 Thank you & keep up the good work. I plan to follow this blog as long as you are posting!

Hi Jamie, I have a question. I hope it's not a “dumb” question…. What kind of Sausage do you use? I know there's hot sausage, italian sausage etc. I'm a cook … well, I'm not really a “cook”, but when I DO cook… I need exactness. 🙂 Some people fudge this and that in a recipe… not me. I've ruined more great dishes that way.

Hi Terry,
It's not a dumb question at all. For this recipe I just used Regular Jimmy Dean sausage, however you could use Italian…or Hot (if that's your kind of thing. I'd make it with regular first and see if you want more of a kick to it. Then you could try the other types of sausage. Good luck! Hope it turns out well for you!
