Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!

by Jamie

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.

Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook).

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me one of your kitchen mishaps. (Goodness knows we all have them!) Did you accidentally pour freshly made gravy down the sink? Did you burn your husbands birthday cake? Did your chicken soup boil over while you were eating chocolate and reading a great book?

I would love to hear your stories. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then, right! You may enter from now until Thursday March 6th. Winner will be announced and contacted on Friday March 7th.

Good luck, everyone!

My husband’s favorite cake is Texas Sheet cake. I have his mother’s recipe for this and have made it several times, trying to recreate a childhood memory of his. EVERY time I make this cake something goes terribly wrong. Either I forget an ingredient, burn the frosting, frosting turns out lumpy, cake turns out lopsided etc. Well, the last and final time of making this cake the frosting once again turned out lumpy. I was so mad that I took a knife and literally stabbed the cake to “death”. I didn’t realize at the time that my husband watched the entire episode of rage. Let’s just say I’m not allowed to make that cake ever again. I think my mother in law cursed it so I can never recreate it for him. 🙂

I was boiling water to make jello, and forgot about it. Boiled the pan dry and burned it!

I was pulling a pizza out of the oven – one of the ones you bake directly on the rack. As I got to the end of the rack, the pizza folded & fell face down into the bottom of the oven & onto the oven door. What a mess!!

After moving into our new home I noticed that the inner part of my oven glass was filthy. Looking up how to clean it online I found a tutorial on pinterest. I decided to attempt this one day when I was home by myself. I removed the first two screws and BOOM the entire front door of my oven fell apart. I had NO idea what to do! We went without an oven for almost two weeks until my handy father-in-law came down from Michigan to fix it. Needless to say I do not attempt new projects on my own!

I never new cooking or kitchen stuff until age of 23. At the age of 17, I got to put my own meals which was prepared at my home. I unknowingly poured cooking oil in rice thinking it to be a soup.

I had just finished baking a chicken Parmesan. However when I pulled it out of the oven and set it on the stove top the pyrex pan shattered EVERYWHERE. Thankfully no one was hurt just startled. Sadly our dinner was ruined and we had a giant mess to clean up. (I think we found splattered marinara sauce for quite some time – that stuff really flies) 🙂

I was cooking macaroni and cheese and forgot about it…yes I burned the pot and it was one of my better pots so I was sad that I had to throw it away.

I guess I was 11 or 12 and my mom asked me to wash the chicken for supper. Well I washed it alright, using dish detergent. Was she ever mad at me over that one.

I was making a bundt cake for my husband’s work potluck. When I dumped it out of the pan only half of it came out & the other half stuck in the pan. Still so yummy but not nearly as pretty!

When I was around 8 years old, I was scrambling eggs and had to run to the bathroom. I turned the heat off the stove. (Which for me was being quite responsible!) When I returned, I turned the heat back on and finished cooking the eggs. They were terrible! To this day, I’m not a great scrambled egg maker and I have to force myself to eat them if I remember the way they tasted!

It never fails that the lid on my blender isn’t on tight enough and out comes mushy mess everywhere. This happened quite a few times when I was making homemade baby food…tip of the day, don’t blend freshly steamed hot veggies. The pressure from the steam creates quite a mess when it decides to evacuate via the blender lid while blending LOL

I had no idea that my Kitchen Aid could walk right off the counter. I was trying to make the dough for ham and cheese pinwheels and the Kitchen Aid just took a dive onto my wood floor. Nice dent to remind me to never leave that thing unattended.

I used chocolate powder instead of cumin to make my falafel idiotically….you can guess what transpired upon first bite… suprisingly not half bad LOL

Thank you so much for this opportunity! In the early years of our marriage we got together with some dear friends all the time. One time I decided to make a Cornish hen. When we all settled in to eat there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of meat. Yep, I fed four adults ONE Cornish hen. Thankfully, they are still our friends. 🙂

The first year I was married I invited friends over for Thanksgiving dinner but decided to have it at my mom’s house as she was out of town and her place was bigger and better equipped.

So, I’m trying to get dinner on the table and realized that the mashed potatoes where lagging behind while everything was already to go.

Instead of taking the time to mash the potatoes by hand I decided to hurry up the process by using my mom’s food processor to puree them.

Lumpy gray wallpaper paste.

That’s what I ended up with as a side dish…

Lesson learned.

Once I made a beautiful, delicious breakfast for my then fiancé. The pancakes were golden and delicious, and I even made homemade syrup. In the midst of all the pancake glory, I forgot I had bacon in the oven which was burned so badly it looked like ash! Worst smell of all time! He still teases me about it!

I’m not sure what the worst mishap was that I had but I know the most frustrating – trying to bake pound cakes and not knowing the flour I had bought (and emptied into the canister) was self-rising. Took me several bubbly, bubbly attempts to figure it out.

Whenever I have the kids help it seems like I have a kitchen blunder. 🙂 Flour all over us, the floor, and the counter, and eggs mostly in the bowl. But they love it so how can I say no when their little hands want to help?

When making chili the other day I put all the ingredients in the crockpot then went to run errands….well crockpots are awesome when you actually turn it on, so I had everything sitting in there for 8 hours just growing bacteria.

I was hosting a dinner party for 4 other couples and made a wonderful stew in a pumpkin. It was beautiful when it came out of the oven and I placed it on my beautfully decorated crystal platter. Within seconds the platter shattered with glass all over the table.

I am the oldest of 8 children and cooked alot and they ate everything except these brownies–I had tried to substitute honey for sugar (at least I thought it was–not really sure to this day) and for some reason, these brownies bounced–noone would eat them–not even the dog (well we didnt have a dog but if we had it would not have eaten them–that bad.

I once made a lemon pudding type cake for a party, but realized when it came out of the oven that I’d added baking soda instead of corn starch. It was inedible.

Too many to pick just one. Latest mishap, In an attempt to make rolls quickly for my hungry boys turned to Jamie’s fluffy dinner rolls recipe. They helped me make the dough and roll it too. We were all disappointed when we bit into our beautiful fluffy rolls. We had forgotten the salt. There is a reason the recipe calls for salt. They didn’t seem to mind though. Thanks for all your yummy recipes and for this great give away.

I once made a chocolate cake and accidentally dropped it down behind the stovetop built in to my parents’ kitchen island. I grabbed it as it fell, and glued the whole mess together with the frosting. It wasn’t the prettiest cake I ever made, but it still tasted yummy!

Children…. I love them, and I had eight. Over the years, I have discovered that they can do crazy, ridiculous things. For example, my children have heard that to test the readiness of spaghetti, you throw a piece at the wall or ceiling, and if it sticks it’s done. Truth be told, I may have told them that, not exactly sure what I was thinking when I did, but I certainly regret those words and wish I could eat them! Long story short, my kitchen ceiling needs to be repainted. Besides the residue of long lost noodles, there is grease residue and even spaghetti ( or maybe salsa from my last canning season) splatters that need to disappear!Sadly to admit, there may even be a stray spaghetti noodle stuck up there. Oh if I could get to all the spots that need cleaning…anyways… I
Sure would love a new ninja!

I made a Jello poke cake for a church party and added too much water to the Jello. I poured it over the cake and put it in the fridge to set up. When they cut the cake the whole bottom of it was watery. I was mortified!
