Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!

by Jamie

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.

Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook).

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me one of your kitchen mishaps. (Goodness knows we all have them!) Did you accidentally pour freshly made gravy down the sink? Did you burn your husbands birthday cake? Did your chicken soup boil over while you were eating chocolate and reading a great book?

I would love to hear your stories. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then, right! You may enter from now until Thursday March 6th. Winner will be announced and contacted on Friday March 7th.

Good luck, everyone!

Well somehow mixed up the sugar and salt in my cake recipe and we know what happened next. We all about died when we ate it. How does that even happen.

Shortly after we first married, 35 years ago next week, I decided to try to make hash browns using actual potatoes. They turned GREEN! Like Army green. Mushy and gross green. I can still picture them in the pan all these years later. I did not know that they should have been soaked in water after they were shredded. I have stuck with frozen hash browns ever since. LOL!

I was making a tomato bisque and was pureeing it in the blender. Well, I didn’t think to hold the lid down and, well, volcano!!! Part of why I like the ninja, a locking lid!

I made slutty brownies in a glass casserole pan. I take out the hot pan and place on my ice cold counter. Kaboom! Glass explosion and shards everywhere!!! I was lucky I wasn’t cut. Add insult to injury, the brownies were burnt and ruined anyway 🙁

Too many to name, but probably trying to cook salmon in the dishwasher. I had a recipe for doing this, but it turned out soooo bad! My husband still gives me a hard time about it.

I burn the bacon almost every time I make it. Then a little piece of me dies, because I really love non-burned bacon.

How about baking a chocolate cake without putting the oven on! It was sitting in a cold oven! LOL

I was making my homemade pasta and sauce for a small dinner party and my boyfriend (for the first time). Everything was perfect until I drained the pasta…into the side of the sink without the colander. Nice

I was prepping a large meal (Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner) and my kitchen sink backed up. We tried for 4 hours to get it unclogged and then resigned to call a plumber in the morning. We let it set overnight and turned on the garbage disposal the next morning and voila! Luckily, it drained and we got it cleaned up before the real cooking began! =)

I’m sure everyone has done this… I set a plastic mixing bowl on my glass cook top and accidentally turned on the burner underneath it rather than the burner under my pan! Melted bowl and pancake batter all over!

Hmmm…I have a few to choose from! I may have once or three times waited until the night before my kid’s party to make the bday cake and then not sprayed the pan well enough and had to use frosting to glue the pieces together and then ended up with such a hideous looking thing that I started over after midnight.

My husband called telling me he was bringing his bosses to dinner that night. I frantically rushed to the store and asked the young man working in the meat section for brisket. I grabbed what he handed me and took it home to prepare. When I bit into it, with the bosses sitting across from me, I realized it was corned beef brisket. So salty I was dying. We went out!!

When I was first married I was very stupid and didn’t realize that whole fish still had the guts inside of them and needed to be cleaned out.I baked my husband some catfish and the stench was so bad we had to leave our apartment! Even our cat ran in the other direction when I offered her some fish.Never made that mistake again!

I would have to say the time I spent hours simmering and seasoning a gorgeous organic chicken carcass for stock and then strained the broth right down the drain because I was distracted! Gutting. Now I triple check that the bowl is there!

Who hasn’t had a mishap? From pots boiling over to forgetting about boiled eggs cooking.(who burns boiled eggs?) To too much salt added. There are way too many of them to name one in particular.

Our OTR microwave died a couple months ago (or maybe it just seems like that long ago…) but my older son was making oatmeal for himself one recent morning before heading out to go ice-fishing. He was boiling milk on the stovetop but didn’t realize how quickly milk can go from simmer to … you guessed it: stinky milk burned onto the stovetop.

I had a dinner for my husband’s commander while in the military. I put the meal on the table and sat down. My husband ask, “Do we have a meat”? Yes, a roast I had put on the table. Then we saw the empty plate…..my St. Bernard had taken the roast off the table, taken it to his queen sized bed, and ate it…he had the roast string caught in his teeth!! We went out and got some chicken!! His commanding officer said it was the most memorable dinner he had ever had.

We were having a Halloween party at work. Our department theme a tropical paradise. My job was to make the alcohol free frozen margaritas. I used my handy dandy Kitchen aid blender. I has a rubber clutch that spins the blade…after about 3 pitchers full…the rubber fell apart. Of the 150 employees only about 1/3 of my coworkers got the frozen treat. Have bought two more of the rubber replacements…would love to do away with the Kitchen Aid.

Being a military wife, my husband was due home from deployment so I decided to make him his favorite dessert-brownies! I wanted them to still be warm by the time I picked him up so I made them right before he was due home-in all the excitement I forgot I left them in the oven when I left…needless to say he had VERY burnt brownies and a smokey house to welcome him home 🙂

I was teaching my daughter how to make a new brownie recipe and we took the brownies out of the oven and placed it on the burner that we both thought was off. Needless to say the next thing we knew the dish exploded. Scaring the @#%(^$#%%$ out of both of us.

I recently tried making a pasta dish and over cooked the pasta so much that it turned into a big pile of mush. Thankfully my husband grilled some brats to go on top of the pasta so we basically just had brats for dinner!

One year around Christmas time I tried to make lime Jello in a tree shaped cake pan. I couldn’t get the Jello to unmold, so I ran the (metal) cake pan under some warm tap water for a minute–this was not the right thing to do. My pretty tree-shaped Jello came out from the pan and slid neatly down my garbage disposal. At least it came out in one piece!

I made my family broccoli cheese soup in my brand new crock pot. The cheesy soup part came out really chunky. I obviously did something very wrong. My husband sat there eating it until I asked how he could stand it. He confessed that he was struggling but didn’t want to hurt my feelings. I’m married to a sweetheart.

Leaving the salt out of a batch of bread (5 loaves!) means you have to throw it away (did I mention FIVE loaves?!). Never underestimate the power of salt! Thanks for the great giveaway!

My noodles boil over almost every time I make them. I just don’t have the patience to sit and watch them the whole time. So I wander off to do other stuff, only to be called back by the sizzling water all over the burner. What a mess.

I thought I’d be nice and make cookies at my mom’s house for her. She has clear containers that aren’t labeled and I used baking soda instead of flour. After I’d made the first ones and gave her one (SO GROSS!), she told me which container held what. Then I proceeded to make more…and used the baking soda instead of flour AGAIN!

I was asked to bring dessert to a family get together and I decided to bake a Carmel chocolate cake at their house so it would be warm when we served it. It looked beautiful coming out of the oven but then kabam it shattered. I haven’t made one since.

I used what I thought was an oven safe dish in the oven for some stuffed bell peppers. The dish cracked and send shards of glass all over the oven. Beautiful stuffed bell peppers had to be discarded because of tiny glass shards. Pity.

One time my mom cooked a spaghetti squash without cutting it in 1/2 or poking any holes. When she pulled it out of the oven kaboom! It was everywhere! All over her, my sister, the kitchen. She cleaned it up, but we kept finding the strings for years!

let’s see… trying to speed up the baking of a bundt cake, I turned the heat up to 500. I thought higher heat faster cooking. (I was only 12.) The outside was burnt, and it was as hard as a brick.

I was cooking a lovely homemade lasagna one mystically day (we have mystical days at our house. Especially when mom has the time to create a lasagna from scratch)! When the lasagna of glorious wonder was done I pulled it out of the oven and set it on top of the stove burners. Now, me being the intelligent but sometimes absent minded woman that I am, forgot to turn the burner off earlier from browning the meat. I walked away to set the table and as I returned and approached the loaded lasagna, the entire thing exploded! My beautiful purple Pyrex shattered and ejected its sharp pieces all over my kitchen along with the remnants of what was to be a dinner to dine for! 😉 I learned my lesson then and there. Check to make sure all burners are OFF before setting any glass dishes on them. Amen!

It was my nephew’s baptism. My mom and I were cooking while guests were in the Church, so food would be ready when they arrive home. My mom was so in a rush and there was such a mess in the kitchen that she decided to garnish the spaghetti in a table outside the kitchen, so, she didn’t notice she added powder detergent (which was in a clear bag) instead Parmesan cheese! As you can picture, everyone savored the detergent! My mom wanted to disappear
