Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!


Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.


Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook). 

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

    The first year we were married, my husband was in the service and we invited some of his single friends that had nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. It was my first attemp at a big meal myself, even though I had been baking for several years. My gravy turned out like jello, and my crescent rolls at least 3 times larger than they should have been, even though they tasted good. Very embarrassing, but they were good sports.

    When I was young I thought we would make the Christmas Fudge for my Mom. While cooking the chocolate goodness on the stove I was stirring it with a plastic spatula. Once it was done, I went to pour it into the pan and to my surprise over half of the spatula was gone. I didn’t want to say anything and went ahead and served the fudge. My mom noticed right away that something wasn’t right. We still laugh about this today.

    I was draining pasta in my sink, just using the lid of the pot and not a colander. The lid slipped and ALL my freshly cooked pasta went straight down the disposal.

    I was in college & my mom shared an easy chicken pot pie recipe with me. I was excited to make it for my boyfriend (now husband) for dinner. I followed the recipe exactly & was puzzled why it wasn’t ready after the time specified. After about TWO hours & flipping the topping (biscuits) b/c they were getting very brown, I called my mom. First thing she asked was if I cooked my chicken. Of course not, the recipe didn’t call for COOKED chicken. Needless to say, the dish was a disaster. I’m a more “seasoned” cook now but I’ll never live it down. Thankfully it made no difference in the boyfriend one day asking me to be his wife! Fun memory!!

    When I was a teenager I decided to make a cherry pie from scratch. My favorite! Anyway, i used green food coloring instead of red to help color the pie filling. It looked gross but tasted delicious. My dad still talks about this, over 40 years ago.

    Just last night – pepper shaker empty, grabbed the large one out of pantry to put pepper in my soup and not paying attention opened the wrong side and “shook” half of the container of pepper in my soup!

    Learning to cook at a young age I thought I was fairly good at it by now but..burning boiled eggs? Holy Smoke(and that it was)!!! The smell was horrible and I’m still embarrassed by even the thought that I did it. Lol

    I didn’t know making mashed potatoes from scratch could be so hard. I boiled the potatoes, drained them, then put them in my mixer bowl. There were a lot of potatoes but I didn’t want to have to do it twice so I just dumped them all in. I put the paddle down and turned it on. Needless to say, it is a good thing I have dogs, because the potatoes when everywhere. What is even worse is I still make the same mistake just about every time I make them! You’d think I’d learn.

    I have made banana bread for years! I can make the recipe in my sleep! Or so I thought….I made a triple batch so I could give some to my husband to bring to work and share with his co-workers. Well….when the timer went off and I opened the door….I discovered I had forgotten to put the baking soda in!!!! Door stops foe everyone!!:)

    My kitchen mishap was setting a pancake on fire. I was using a gas stove with too much oil. So grateful I didn’t burn the house down.

    A couple of Christmas seasons ago I went shopping for all the ingredients for several kinds of holiday cookies. When I got home I was in such a hurry to unload all the bags from the car to the kitchen .. And there were sooo many. I must have been planning to open a bakery! Well, I put a few on my glass stovetop as well, which was off, or so I thought! In my rush, I had put a bag that had flour (heavy) in it against one of the burner knobs and somehow it had gotten pushed and turned on. While I was putting the items away, I could not figure out what that smell was. Oh my, it was the plastic grocery bag melting on the burner and inside was a plastic (melting also) bag of hard peppermint candies for my holiday cookies! What a mess trying to get all of that off of the glass stovetop. Good thing I was still home! Yikes!

    Cooking dressing for the freshly caught Flounder for college roommates at the camp. Had not glasses on and was cutting up fresh bread for the crabmeat dressing. Swept it all off the counter into the skillet.. Drinking a little wine while doing this…cooked the crab and pulled it out to serve and realized the wine corks were cooked into the dressing and freshly stuffed Flounder..oops…we laughed till we cried…

    I will never forget (nor will my mother let me) I was baking cookies for my family growing up, I was probably 13 and I miss read the recipe and instead of putting 1/4 tsp of salt in my cookies, I put 1/4 CUP!!
    No one knew it until my mom grabbed one “quality inspection she called it” What a mess! It is almost as bad as my making an angelfood cake, not putting it up on a bottle to cool and frosting it at 1″ high like nothing was wrong. Of course it was a surprise for my parents…. some surprize!!! I am glad I have put 45 years behind me and am much better in my baking. This blender would help make me a much better cook today!

    This is a story we bring up every Thanksgiving…my wonderful mother (now has passed on to heaven), was making brown gravy along with chocolate pudding for some of her great cream pies. Being in a hurry and stressed out, she accidently poured the gravy into her cooked pie shell thinking it was the pudding!! After she filled the pie shell, she knew immediately what she had done and proceeded to spoon the gravy out of the pie shell (she didn’t have another one made). She was bound and determined to use that pie shell again — she even washed it out with water under the faucet!! Well it didn’t wash out – she is the nicest person ever, but boy, was she mad after making that mistake!! She just served pudding with whipped cream!!! I love that lady!

    My husband was preparing a roast and when he made the switch from the frying pan to the crockpot somehow we had a mini explosion and we have had a stain on our ceiling for 4 years now where the juices from the meat and wine soaked up :/

    When I was about 13, I tried to make supper one night. Thinking Mom & Dad would be so proud of me for helping out. I got busy cooking, making a dessert, setting the table & trying to keep the mess down, I forgot about the pot of beans boiling on the stove. I rushed over to grab the pot, it had boiled dry, I set it on the counter top. When my mom came home there was a smell in the house and questioned what did I burn? proudly I said nothing. But when Mom went to move the pot it had bubbled & burnt the counter top. 30 years later, that mark is still there. Mom calls it the “Lynnette’s cooking spot”

    First time I had the in-laws for dinner I mistakenly used baking soda instead of baking powder and whatever I made (mental block) was so salty it was inedible.

    In the mornings when I am rushing to get my kids out the door to school, I cook up some pancakes for my husband. But as soon as I sit down after the rush I forget about the pancake it burns, and he is left to eat a yogurt.

    When I was about 10 years old I decided it was time to learn to cook. My mother was sick at the time and couldn’t supervise . I decided to make cream puffs. What a disaster. My brother laughed about it all of his life.

    It seems every time I try to make a chicken casserole I misjudge the cooking time. I’ve had everyone gathered around the table more times than I’d care to admit only to find the chicken still pink inside and requiring more time in the oven. Gross!

    My kitchen mishap happened a few months ago. I had my favorite cookie sheet sitting on top of the stove. I was going to start a pan of water to boil and turned on the wrong burner. Well, now my favorite cookie sheet has a lovely burn mark on it. DANG IT!

    Just a few weeks ago sat my favorite Tupperware bowl on the large burner on my stove after washing it. Later thought I turned on front burner but no turned on big burner. I did not notice until coughing and seeing snoke. The bottom of the bowl melted all over the electric burner. The material Tupperware is made of was choking me so decided to toss the burner and ordered a new one!

    I was making a green soup. I put it into the blendee to get it smooth, turned it on without the lid… green goo EVERYWHERE!

    The first apartment we lived in after getting married had no stove . But we had gotten a crock pot, toaster, coffee pot, electric skillet & warming tray for wedding gifts. So every morning & night meals were made using a combination of one or more appliances. The coffee pot would be used to make coffee in the morning and brew tea for iced tea in the evening. Meals were always creative & some nights a challenge. However, we were in love so that made up for all things & I lost 35 lbs the first month of marriage because of our creative cooking!

    I was trying to hurry (never a good plan) to make green bean casserole and corn casserole at Thanksgiving. We were at my daughter’s and going to the in-laws. I dumped the cream of mushroom soup for the green bean casserole into the corn casserole and mixed it all up. When I went to mix up the green bean casserole I realized I didn’t have the mushroom soup. Yikes! Had to send someone to the store for more soup (thank goodness the store was open). Both casseroles were ok and if you didn’t know the corn casserole had an extra ingredient….

    A few years ago, while making chili, my husband told me to put baking soda in with the chili to help prevent getting gas from the beans. Being skeptical, I asked where he heard that and was told one of the guys at work had done that and said it worked. I added a little to the chili and it ruined the entire batch. I never, ever listened to ANY cooking advice from him again.

    I was making baking powder biscuits and used baking soda instead. Yuck! They are not interchangeable.

    Last summer at the lake I put WAY too much down the garbage disposal…needless to say we were scrambling to find a plumber!!

    A couple of years ago I convinced my husband to bake some chicken before I got home from work. I was pregnant and tired. When I got home my 7 year old spilled red kool aid all over the inside of the fridge. I sent him out of the kitchen and got down to cleaning the fridge out. As soon as I squatted down my husband pulled the chicken out of the oven and the Pyrex dish exploded! The glass went everywhere! I’m so thankful I sent my son out and that I was down. I still find glass in the kitchen. Even in the eyes on the stove an inside the fridge! So glad no one for hurt!

    While cleaning my immersion blender I forgot to unplug it first, needless to say I almost lost a finger. I’m a bit more careful now.

    I love having people over for dinner and cooking for them and for the most part it goes ok. But I have one friend that I cook for something ALWAYS goes wrong! Putting 1 Tbsp of pepper instead of 1 tsp, a pie crust fail, raw crescent rolls, the list goes on. She takes it in stride and eats politely what she can and we both end up in fits of laughter over the thing!

    My family had a fun night planned watching a movie rental by the fire and enjoying some banana splits. When it came time to put the dessert together we couldn’t find the vanilla ice cream. I know I had purchased a new container that morning. Well, we eventually found it…melted..and under the kitchen sink!! I must have been thinking of something else as I was putting the groceries away.

    The first year we were married we rented a home with a gas stove that would not stay lite. One day I failed to get it to light, I cut the gas off and waited for my husband to get home. He went to light the oven and it blew up on him. I thought I had killed my new husband; alas he was ok, less eyebrows and hair but ok. From then on everytime I had to light the oven I would put on my husbands firefighting equipment. Lesson learned, always open oven door and air out if it fails to light; and always tell you hubby you love him.

    Once I came home to a freshly made enchiladas that my husband so kindly made. Let’s just say, the smell was rather pungent when I walked in the door. He said, “it was really weird, the recipe called for an ENTIRE clove of garlic!” He mixed up “clove” and “head”. Let’s just say, they were very flavorful!

    I was about 19 or 20 and my grandma and I were in her kitchen cooking. I somehow managed to catch a kitchen towel on fire. Grandma was trying to get the towel from me and put it in the sink. I got freaked out and waved the flaming towel around a few times. I’m sure she thought her whole kitchen was going to go up in flames! We managed to get the towel in the sink without a house fire, thank goodness. Let me tell ya, I am very careful these days!

    I was making a cherry square recipe and my sheet pan happened to be a tad too small so needless to say I had a LOT of over flow in my oven with burnt cherries and crust. Cleaning the oven is one of those jobs I’d love to skip….ALWAYS!

    One night at dinner, many many years ago, I plopped a bottle of ketchup on the table, it shot up and sprayed all over the ceiling. What a mess, but the girls sure thought it was funny!!

    I was making pudding with an hand held mixture. One of the mixer things (technical term!) broke which resulted in chocolate pudding ALL OVER THE KITCHEN! Good times, and I don’t think I even got the pudding I wanted 🙁

    Oh my. My problem happens when I microwave that LAST THING I need to complete dinner, and by the time I set the table, pour our drinks, and get everyone to to sit down, I forget I even used the microwave. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found cold veggies in the microwave in the morning. Then, there are all the times I set off the smoke detector in our first apartment while cooking. :0) Thank you, Jamie, for all you do!

    My mother never taught me how to cook because she did not want us kids to dirty her stove. One day, my mother was at work, my father came home and demanded that I make dinner…hot dogs! So I got out a pot, put the hot dogs in and turned the heat up high, just like my mom…I forgot one little thing…WATER! I not only burned all the hotdogs, but I partially melted the pot handle…pizza was good that night! Thanks Dad!

    This is definitely going to tell my age, but when my husband and I were first married, my dear mother-in-law had bought us the newest kitchen appliance out there. Yes, it was a Brand spanking new Sears Kenmore Microwave !! The 3 of us were so excited, none of us had ever actually even seen, let alone used one before. We decided to melt margarine for the mashed potatoes we were having for supper. No where do I remember seeing any mention of don’t put foil in. There were sparks flying everywhere, Oh, and such a nasty smell. We of course all thought this was what it was supposed to do. Needless to say that was the only time I got to use my lovely new microwave. We left it sit on the counter for over 3 months… I guess I was just hoping….

    I was making easy mac years ago from the little pouches that your poured into a bowl and added water and then microwaved. Well I forgot the water and light the microwave on fire and melted the bowl. Lets just say after that mishap that happened twice easy mac was forbidden without parental supervision.
