Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!

by Jamie

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.

Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook).

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me one of your kitchen mishaps. (Goodness knows we all have them!) Did you accidentally pour freshly made gravy down the sink? Did you burn your husbands birthday cake? Did your chicken soup boil over while you were eating chocolate and reading a great book?

I would love to hear your stories. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then, right! You may enter from now until Thursday March 6th. Winner will be announced and contacted on Friday March 7th.

Good luck, everyone!

In our first year of marriage we had a guest for dinner..I was behind schedule when I made the Baked Alaska. Didn’t let the cake cool enough…cake slid all over the shelf in fridge. Totally embarrassed..we scooped it up and ate it anyway. Totally delicious! Have not made another one since!

Wow. Which one. It sounds like a am a real klutz, but I’m not, well not all the time.
When I first started to cook I was a young girl. The family went to church, but I stayed home with a tummy ache. They were late at getting home so I got up and cooked lunch. We had liver and onions, mashed potatoes & gravy and canned green beans. The liver was over cooked and as black and tough as shoe leather. The onions were not cooked well and blackened in spots. The potatoes were lumpy. The gravy had an inch of grease floating on the top. The only thing that tasted really good were the canned green beans. No one mentioned how bad the meal was.

I put a cheese crisp in the oven and then laid on the couch for a few minutes and accidentally fell asleep! Well, it caught on fire and thankfully the smoke alarms woke me up!!!

So the other night my family was browsing your website for dinner and a yummy treat, cause YOU never fail to disappoint!! We got dinner underway and I started with your Red Velvet Cookie Bars recipe!! Got it in the oven and started the frosting. Everything was gonna be wonderful, i just knew it. I peeked in the oven and sure enough it was rising beautifully. Pulled it out the oven and it turned pancake flat, maybe even thinner!! I went back to the recipe and looked everything over., Check, check check…….. So I am to the point of blaming Jamie!! Cause it couldnt be ME!! So i went back to the recipe and discovered that the recipe did NOT call for 1/2 cup of flour (no, it didnt sound right when i did it but i thought Jamie was being real crafty in the kitchen that day) but 3 1/2 cups!! So now im close to tears cause i have all this yummy frosting and no more red coloring and little kiddies who want a treat!! Epic failure in the Wolfley kitchen that night!! We love YOU Jamie and really appreicate all you do for our Family and Kitchen!! Love from Wyoming

When newly married my husband was in college and I was taking only a few credit hours. I spent all day making dinner and was so excited for him to come home and eat it with me. Table set and we started to eat. After bite number one, I was completely grossed out while my husband lovingly continued eating and telling me dinner was good. I told him that it was disgusting and he didn’t have to pretend because I wasn’t having another bite. He was relieved and 22 years later we still laugh about “that dinner”.

I made salsa and I didn’t want it so runny so I drained the juice off and I thought well I cant through that away. so I used it in a chili instead of my v8 juice. wow, yikes. It was so spicy we couldn’t eat it.

I was making pulled pork and completely forgot about it simmering away on the stove. Next thing I know I smell something burning only to find all the liquid gone with the pork burned at the bottom.

I made a chocolate 4-layer tall cake for my son’s birthday and left it on the table next to a window seat. We noticed moments later that our black lab was licking the frosting off the top of the cake. My son and I didn’t panic since he and I were the only ones to witness what had happened. I quickly lifted the top layer off and refrosted with leftover icing. My husband and two daughters had no idea what had happened while enjoying cake!

My flour canister was empty, so I opened a new 5 lb bag and filled the canister. When I went to put the scoop back in, I discovered that I had left it at the bottom of the canister, under 5 lb of flour!

Where to start…there is always the pumpkin pie that I made without sugar, the brownies and bread without salt. When I was first married and my husband was working late, I made his favorite enchiladas for his birthday and on the way out the door a piece if glass from our storm door caught my jacket and I dropped the enchiladas, which happened to be in a glass pan. So I tried to salvaged what part looked unharmed and took it to my husband. On the second bite we heard crunch– yep piece if glass. Poor guy had Taco Bell for his birthday dinner. 🙂

When I was younger, I had beef stew on cooking for dinner. I went outside & a neighbor said something to me & I walked over to her yard. We started talking & I forgot all about the beef stew cooking. Another neighbor came walking by & said, “do you have something burning?” I went inside & my kitchen was filled with smoke. At that time, I was using a cheap thinner pot and the beef stew had charcoaled. It became so hot that when I picked up on the pot handles, the bottom of the pot stayed on the burner. Unbelievable but true story.

As a young girl, I was making cookies with a friend. I had made cookies multiple times with my mom, but not really by myself. I accidently mixed up the salt and sugar amounts. Needless to say, the cookies turned out to be pretty salty instead of sweet.

I was making a late night batch of baby food with the fruit strainer attachment to my Kitchenaid mixer. Silly me forgot to tighten the pin to keep the strainer from spinning. Just as I was spooning hot, cooked pears into the hopper with the mixer’s motor running, the whole thing tipped over and dumped the batch all over me and the kitchen. What a mess.

We had just bought a new home and both sides of the family here for Thanksgiving. I was in charge of cooking the turkey and everyone was bringing a dish. We put all the food on the table called the family to the table, said grace and as my husband was cutting the turkey blood started pouring out it was still raw on the inside. I had never cooked a turkey in high altitude and didn’t take into account that it need to cook longer. Need less to say everyone still talks about my raw turkey LOL

Soon after I was married, my mother went on a trip and I invited my father over for dinner. I made meatloaf, it called for oatmeal, fine, I knew how to make oatmeal. But, as we all know, I didn’t have to make oatmeal, just add it to the recipe. Worst meatloaf ever! All runny, and did not make a loaf at all!

When we were first married, I really wanted potato soup that my mother makes. After calling her for the recipe I started out by boiling the potatoes. I wasn’t paying attention and burned them. I peeled some more potatoes and tried again. Yep, burned them too. Tried one more time and believe it or not, burned them too a crisp. I gave up and have not attempted that recipe since.

When we had company for the weekend, dh put carrot peals down the sink into our ancient garbage disposal. This resulted in not being able to use the sink OR the dishwasher for several days. It was NOT pretty.

I was 6 months pregnant, I put some frozen chicken breast in a pot with water on the stove and fell asleep on the couch, only to wake up to find the house filled with black smoke and a horrible smell. The chicken was toast! The house smelled for days.

When I was in home ec in high school, I was once put in charge of making blue cheese dressing from scratch. No on told me that the blue cheese was wrapped in a wax casing that needed to be removed. I put all the ingredients in the blender & let it whirl. Needless to say the dressing did not turn out right!

One of my kids flipped a penny with their thumb…you know a usually harmless way to send a foreign object into the air. It went flying into the hot glass oven door and the glass shattered into a trillion pieces.

When I was a newlywed, I put a pot of potatoes on to boil and then forgot them, by the time I remembered, the pot had boiled dry. I got excited and took the pot off the stove and set it directly on the counter top which was Formica. Needless to say, it burned the counter top. A very expensive pot of potatoes!

My family LOVES Ruth’s Chris Sweet Potato casserole, so I make it on special occasions. A few weeks ago, I decided to make them. Everyone was soooo excited! My husband took a bite and made a funny face and said “These are incredibly salty!” Well, unbeknownst to me, someone had changed my salt and sugar bins around in my pantry (they are both in white 5 gallon buckets) and didn’t tell me. (I didn’t taste them before I served them, because I myself don’t like sweet potatoes). Everyone nearly cried, and all those delightful ingredients wasted – so, so sad!

We invited new neighbors for Thanksgiving dinner one year. The turkey went in the oven in plenty of time, but it was taking forever to cook and dinner time had been pushed back a few times before we finally figured out that the bottom element in our electric oven had gone kapoot. We marched the turkey down the street to the neighbors’ oven. In the end we shared a very late but delicious meal with new friends.

I was cooking my first Christmas dinner. The menu was amazing. I was using the oven in the kitchen and an older oven in the basement for overflow baking. This was Christmas day and we lost all power. Everyone was coming over I was so scared. We found an emergency electrician and he saved the day. Got rid of that stove downstairs and have since had the house rewired.

During my first pregnancy (for which I blame this stupidity) I was making a batch of pumpkin chocate chip cookie dough, it was my first time you see. I put in the baking soda and then looked at the recipe and saw that it called for baking powder! I was convinced I had ruined the dough using the rough thing, burst into hysterical tears, through the cookie dough away (I have learned much in my years and would never repeat this grave mistake) and send my husband to the store for more pumpkin so I could start over. I started a new batch only to realize the recipe called for baking soda AND baking powder!!! So, so stupid!

While cooking dinner I decided to move the candle and candle warmer to a different corner of the kitchen. Upon doing so I didn’t realize how hot it was and dropped the entire giant candle on the floor and spilled hot wax everywhere. I spent hours trying to get it off the kitchen floor by knife. Then my genius husband came up with the idea to steam it with a little handheld steamer. The wax came right off. Needless to say we had our floors “waxed.”

I used a 1 gallon size ziplock bag to marinate chicken. Thinking I had zipped it close, I placed it in the fridge and marinade went all over the place. Not only did I have to make another batch of marinade, I also had to clean my fridge and everything inside! I also just recently placed a roast in my crockpot at the perfect time to be cooked perfectly for when my husband got home for work. Yep, midday I realized I had not plugged it in. No roast that day…

When I first got married I was horrible in the kitchen. I messed up hamburger helper. I burned chili. I’m getting better. Recently I was baking bacon and got distracted. It was smoking and black by the time I thought, “what is that weird smell?? Oh crap! The bacon!”
I have learned to keep frozen pizza on stand by just in case. Lol.

There are times when I’m making a recipe that I have made bunches of time, my mind can forget what I’m doing and drift off to la la land. This particular day I had been making chicken stock. I had taken good care of this pot of gold, maintaining a low, gentle simmer and skimming the scum from the top. When I deemed it was perfect I placed my cheesecloth in the strainer and began to pour it through the cloth, making sure to keep all the nastiness out of my stock. Unfortunately I had placed the strainer in the sink and had forgotten to put a pot under the it. Yes, I had just poured that all that delicious broth right down the drain. Sob!

I sometimes set pots and pans on the stove to air dry when I am washing dishes. I used to set other things (cutting boards, strainers) until I ruined a few things by turning on the wrong burner and melting them.

A few years ago I had taken the burners off to replace foil over the trays and didn’t get one pushed back in all of the way. I put a pot of water on the stove to boil and realized it wasn’t level because I hadn’t pushed the burner back in all of the way. I took the pot off and, without thinking (and without turning the burner off), used my oven mitt to push the burner back in. A big flame shot off of my oven mitt. I screamed and shook my hand and the fire went out quickly, but it was a scary moment!

When I was 12 I baked my first pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. After I took them from the oven I carried one out to show off to my Dad who was napping on the floor. I bent down to show him and the HOT pie slid off my hands and onto my Dad’s chest. He quickly jumped up and luckily wasn’t burned. BUT I hadn’t put any sugar in the pie so it was basically squash and pie crust. That was a long time ago and my family still won’t let me live it down!

I thought I had turned my stove off, but had only turned it down to low. At the same time I was busy baking, and after taking a casserole out of the oven I just threw the potholder on the stove, turned off the oven, and walked out of the kitchen. About a half hour later I was starting to smell something but thought it was someone’s fireplace I was smelling. No, I eventually discovered that my kitchen towel was smoldering and ready to burst into flames. I found it just in time! It took hours to get the smell out of the house. 😀
