Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!

by Jamie

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.

Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook).

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me one of your kitchen mishaps. (Goodness knows we all have them!) Did you accidentally pour freshly made gravy down the sink? Did you burn your husbands birthday cake? Did your chicken soup boil over while you were eating chocolate and reading a great book?

I would love to hear your stories. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then, right! You may enter from now until Thursday March 6th. Winner will be announced and contacted on Friday March 7th.

Good luck, everyone!

Just a couple days ago, my 5 year old decided he needed a bowl so he climbed up on a open cabinet door. He broke the door in half and got quite a fright, but thankfully he didn’t get hurt 🙂

I once baked a frozen pizza on the cardboard it came on on the pizza pan. Could not figure out for the life of me why I could not cut through that dang thing with my pizza cutter. 🙂

I was making homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, while I was simultaneously making lasagne for my weekend guests to enjoy the day after Thanksgiving. Of course, I’m cooking the sauce for the lasagne from scratch. As I’m working away, I dump a can of tomatoes into my lasagne sauce. Then, I realize that I actually dumped the tomatoes into the cranberry sauce instead! I spooned out as many of the tomatoes as a could; gave the cranberry sauce a stir; and served it to my guests. No one noticed a thing. Thank goodness those red tomatoes blended right into that red cranberry sauce!

I put the sponge from my handheld dishwasher in the actual dishwasher one time because I brilliantly thought it would be a good way to sanitize it. Apparently, I hadn’t cleaned all the soap out of it, and later that day, when there was mounds and mounds of suds coming out of my dishwasher, I was baffled as to what was going on. After calling the repairman to come see what was malfunctioning with my dishwasher, and nothing could be found, I realized the culprit was my sudsy sponge which was caused by yours truly 🙂

One of my earliest messes was as a teen I was expected to peel potatoeS for our family of 10. I hated peeling those potatoes so would prop a book to read while I peeled. Then I disliked peeling them even more as I peeled the skin right off my knuckles. 🙂

My worst disaster was probably a time when I was pregnant. I started some spaghetti sauce on the stove. I make my sauce from home canned tomatoes so it need to cook down a bit. I wanted to put my feet up for a few minutes. I woke up about 2 hours later to blackened sauce. Of course being in my hormonal state I proceeded to bawl my eyes out, which caused my husband to get us takeout. Hmmm…so maybe that wasn’t too bad after all.

I wanted to make a meal to surprise my wife. I planned an elaborate meal of all new recipes. I didn’t plan time correctly and ended up drying out the meat, over cooking the veggies and having undercooked cake.

Hmmm, let’s see…probably forgetting the sugar in a cake recipe. Not my finest moment in the kitchen! 🙂 Funny memories!

Two weeks ago, my 11-year old son decided he wanted to warm up a frozen muffin. He put it in the microwave (as he’d seen me do before) and set it for 2 minutes and 50 seconds (which I had NEVER done before!). Needless to say, it was “overcooked” … more like a hockey puck. We had to open all of the windows (it was 30 degrees outside) to air out the house. My microwave still smells burnt!!!

I seem to have an issue of putting my cooking utensils on my very hot glass-top stove. I melted the handles off of my favorite can opener. I still use it-even though others have tried to buy me a new one. At least I’ve managed to keep my fingers off the burners.

Once one of my kiddos left the plastic wrapper on the microwave popcorn. Let’s just say we smell burned popcorn everytime we use the microwave.

My most recent that I can think of. I probably have too many! haha. I kept forgetting about a pot of water I was trying to boil. I had to keep going to refill it. I then got a phone call from my sister. I was talking to her and COMPLETELY forgot about it. I now have a very black pan. One of my nice ones too.

It’s difficult to choose from my many kitchen miss haps,
But here’s one. I make sugar water for my many hummingbirds every summer. Had a pot started on the stove top, when I decided I needed to go to grocery store. Left the house, and was walking through the pet isle for kitty food. The bird seed triggered recall. I called home quickly to the answered greeting…”you’re too late”. Sugar water cooked down into a blackened char. Pot had to be thrown away. House smokey, but still standing.

We were always in the kitchen with my mom when we were younger. We had family visiting that day and it was time to get dinner on the table. The only thing I remember about that dinner is the big bowl of mashed potatoes being handed to me to take to the table. I dropped them and we had mashed potatoes everywhere except on the dinner table.

While staying with my parents during a vacation home, my dad was kind enough to make extra smoothie every morning for me. There would be a tall glass of bright purple smoothie waiting for me every morning when I got up. One morning while trying to reach something in the back of the fridge I bumped one thing, that tipped another, which bumped into the smoothie and pushed it right off the top shelf. Somehow it managed to land right side up at the bottom of the fridge without breaking, but it shot smoothie EVERYWHERE, including my horror-struck face as I watched it happen. My mom and I cleaned smoothie out of the fridge for a good 15 minutes until she looked at my face and burst out laughing. I looked like I had the measles. The smoothie had even shot up to the ceiling, staining it. Needless to say, the next day my smoothie was in a covered glass with a note stuck to it that said “handle with care.”

When my husband and I were first married, I wanted to cook a special meal for him. I turned the oven on to preheat. the next thing I knew, flames and smoke were filling up the kitchen. Had to call the fire dept. Turns out, it was a brand new oven and all the cardboard and paperwork were still in there and I never checked before turning it on! It was a memorable first meal:)

Early marriage, very small house with electric range. Burner on, took rug out of dryer which was next to range and promptly laid it on the burner. Rubber backing on rug, it was an awful mess!

I was making a smoothie for my son and I and while it was mixing in the blender, the blender cracked at the bottom somehow and the whole smoothie flew out of the crack and the kitchen got a good shower of green smoothie. It was a blast to clean up I tell ya! 🙂

I was in the middle of teaching a piano lesson when I realized my glass pan of chicken breasts needed to come out of the oven and my kids had disappeared. I rushed to the kitchen, grabbed the pan out of the oven and set it on my bread board and immediately heard what sounded like a shotgun blast as the pan shattered into a million pieces and glass and chicken flew everywhere. What a mess! Had to lock the back door to the kitchen and leave the mess till I finished lessons.

When my daughter was very young she liked toast with cinnamon and honey for breakfast. One morning, in the rush to get ready for work/school, she complained that her toast was hot. I told her to blow on it to cool it down, she said not that hot, the other hot! Turns out I had made her toast with honey and chili powder…

I recently bought several cartons of fresh blueberries. I have a berry keeper so I washed and put the lovely blueberries in it and placed them in the refrigerator. I later tried to take the berry keeper out of the fridge using one hand. The lid popped off and all the blueberries went rolling all over the floor. I hated to lose so many blueberries so I picked them all up, carefully washed them and placed them back in the berry keeper. Next time I needed some berries to top my steel cut oats, I reached in to pick up the container. Guess what, the lid popped off and all the berries went spilling across the floor.

I went to bake and turned the oven on self clean instead of bake. It was a recipe that you put the food in while it’s preheating, so it was ruined!

I was trying to rush and bake several dozen sugar cookies for my daughter to take to school-of course she didn’t tell me about it until I had gotten home from work, fixed dinner and was trying to relax after putting in a load of laundry AND she needed them to take to school the next day. I rushed into the kitchen, pulled out my recipe for sugar cookies, and tried to get my 5 daughters to all help me out. I really was not paying attention, and ended up putting 1/2 of the amount of sugar using salt. Distracted much Gail?? Anyway, we ended up having to throw them away (after the girls tried to entice our 2 dogs into eating them) and next morning at 6:30 am I had to make an emergency run to the market to buy sugar cookies. That was over 25 years ago, and my girls still bring it up to this day.

My husband was helping me with dinner prep. when when without my knowing it he spilled the gravy on the kitchen flour. Shortly thereafter I walked back into the kitchen, stepped in the puddle of gravy and literally slid across the floor ending up under the kitchen table! Thankfully there were no serious injuries!

I had put a frozen pizza in one part of the oven and had some breadsticks on a cookie sheet in the other half. It wouldn’t quite fit so I just tipped it a little bit. Well, about 8 minutes later smoke comes boiling out of the kitchen. I opened the oven to see the cheesy deliciousness and butter had dripped down into the floor of my oven and was nearly on fire. It is so cold outside but we had to open the doors and let the smoke out! Luckily the food was still edible.

There have been two times when we have eaten out at IHOP for dinner because I made beef and broccoli and cooked the beef AND broccoli in the crock pot for 8 hours. Turning the broccoli into a salty soya sauce mush and then I made taco soup and instead of adding taco seasoning I added seasoning salt but it wasn’t tasting like taco soup so I kept adding and adding and adding more until you could smell the salt coming from the soup.

First time ever making homemade donuts. Let me just say “grease fire” I plopped the dough into the pot of hot oil. Oil spattered out everywhere! Caught the dish towel on fire, decor above the stove, and the oven mitt, which I tried to put it out with. My mother-in-law came and put a lid on it and saved the day. That was over 20 years ago and I haven’t even attempted to make donuts again. Scary then but we laugh at it now, considering it was her kitchen I almost burned down!

I had to make some cookies for my daughters activity and I was experimenting on a Gluten free recipe. Not sure what went wrong but it spread out over entire pan and dripped all over the oven and started to burn.. Pretty soon smoke was billowing out the oven setting off the smoke detectors throughout the house..Couldnt really clean it up due to a hot oven so had to continue trying to get these cookies made but every time I opened oven door the smoke would just barrel out setting the alarms off again.. one goes off they all go off.. They probably went off 12 times throughout the day.. Thankfully the indoor sprinkler system did not go off.. That would have really been bad!!

Probably my best mishap was dropping the cooked turkey on the floor where it promptly slided down the 6 bastment stairs. There all my husband family waited for Thanksgiving dinner. I picked it up wiped it off and served it. Lucky for me I had thourghly cleaned due to husbands family coming so the stairs were pretty clean

I spent a great deal of time making several loaves of banana bread. I set the timer on the stove and one on my phone. Then I went outside and worked in my garden when the timer on my phone went off I was so ready for a slice of hot bread. Well when I got back inside I couldn’t smell them baking and thought that was odd. I then realized I had set the timer but didn’t turn the oven on!

I was craving chocolate chip cookies one day. So I started making them, got them all baked and after they had cooled, ate one. I thought they were weird tasting and couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong. A couple more cookies eaten by family members and them saying they were weird, I realized I had forgot to put in the chocolate chips!!

A few months ago, I was helping my sister make tacos and thought it would be a good idea to try out her new food processor for the tomatoes and lettuce – experimenting is good, right? And since I was a newbie, I used the wrong attachment and ended up with lettuce soup. Needless to say, I’ve been banished from ever making tacos of any sort ever again.

I was baking a birthday cake for my parents (they have a birthday close together) and instead of buttering and flouring the pan, I buttered the pan and then used corn meal. Another time, i was making sweet team and the top exploded off the container and sweet tea went all over my cabinets and walls. Even though I’ve repainted since then, sometimes sugar and/or sugar and tea seep through the walls.

I remember when I was a little girl I forgot to put the honey lid on tight. I put it in sideways into the lazy susan and the next day there was an inch of honey covered in the lazy susan. Oh that was not fun to clean up! I totally learned a lesson that honey to put the lid on tight ALWAYS when you put honey back!! LOL!

When we were first married we lived near my husband’s extended family in New York. I wanted to make my mom’s famous orange rolls for Thanksgiving but somehow added way too much yeast to the dough. It was a “leave in the fridge overnight” dough and when I went to get it in the morning – it was growing all over the fridge. It was like the horror movie “The Blob”!

My son in learning to be self sufficient in the kitchen was making hot dogs. Once cooked he took them off the burner, turned the burner off but then placed the plastic-picnic plate on the burner to serve the hotdogs. Luckily the freezer trick worked to get the melted red plastic off of the burner.

Being the good mom, I would not let my 3 year old son use the microwave to cook his corn dog. I mean he was only 3 and he couldn’t possibly plug in the correct cooking time. I being the adult knew I was the expert. I am sure you can guess the rest of the story. I plugged the time in on the microwave right as my neighbor stopped by. I am not sure of the exact time but it was something like 1 minute and I hit 10 minutes on the microwave! I seemed to forget all about even cooking the corn dog because of my neighbor’s visit and well the corn dog was blackened, the microwave was finished and the smoke alarm worked! We went and got ice cream for snack!

The worst mishap was I was using one of those pampered chef slicers, and it has a finger guard, but I couldn’t get it to work so I continued on without it and needless to say I took a nice chunk out of my thumb, and went straight to insta-care to take care of it, but the other silly thing I did once was making taco’s for dinner and instead of grabbing the taco seasoning I grabbed the cinnamon and didn’t realize it till I started mixing it in the hamburger and started wondering why it smelled like cinnamon. Once I realized it I tried rinsing it off and putting taco seasoning instead, but it didn’t matter, the cinnamon taste was there to stay, so it wasn’t the best taco night we had.
