Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!

by Jamie

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.

Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook).

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me one of your kitchen mishaps. (Goodness knows we all have them!) Did you accidentally pour freshly made gravy down the sink? Did you burn your husbands birthday cake? Did your chicken soup boil over while you were eating chocolate and reading a great book?

I would love to hear your stories. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then, right! You may enter from now until Thursday March 6th. Winner will be announced and contacted on Friday March 7th.

Good luck, everyone!

In the middle of trying to finish a Christmas Eve dinner, I was draining the haricot verts, and on the way back to the stove, slipped and flung them all over the kitchen. AND I bruised my behind. Not a fun night!!!

My family has asked me not to cook hamburgers in the oven anymore because I tend to set off the smoke detector 😉 Thank goodness for grills!

Ever put too much shredded chicken down the disposal and clog the pipes? I have. Smells nasty and looks even nastier when trying to clean it out. Garbage disposals and chicken – not friends.

I cooked the bag of giblets inside the turkey because I couldn’t find it until after I pulled the turkey out of the oven. Another time I pulled out a not quite done turkey and didn’t realize until it was too late. I didn’t really learn to cook until I was about 27 years old and cooking blogs became more common and popular. You helped me a lot. Growing up we ate a lot of Spaghetti, tacos and hamburger helper. I didn’t know a better way. Hope we win the blender. Sunday smoothies are my kids new favorite tradition.

Forgot about the rice cooking on the glass stovetop. Went outside. When I came back in the house was smokey and smelled bad, the rice was charcoal like and the glass top stove was broken. We had to go outside to breath and the smell was so potent our neighbors were asking if everything was okay.

I used to eat oysters… bought some fresh ones and tried shucking them with a knife… BAD idea… emergency room and stiches. Never tried that again.

My worst kitchen disaster (to date) involved me using a can-opener to open a can of pineapple and then somehow dropping the lid from that can into my live blender as I made a blueberry smoothie. I can no longer remember the details of how I was stupid enough to do this, but by the grace of God, no one was killed when the blender ejected the thin, razor-sharp metal disk from its pitcher, along with most of the smoothie. I still have a few small, stubborn, purple flecks on my kitchen ceiling.

I was once making a cheese dip in the blender, while my new sister in law visited with me in the kitchen. I dumped all my ingredients in and turned on the blender, and had this aweful clanking in the blender. Stopped everything, poured out the contents in a bowl. That’s when I realized the little plastic lid that is supposed to be on top of the rubber lid had fallen off and was being ground into my appetizer…Ugh…so embarassing!

I was assigned pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving with family in Idaho. It was gorgeous, complete with little leaves made from pie crust as a decoration. I babied that thing for the entire 3 hour drive. Then, just as we were turning onto their street, I accidentally stuck the heel of my foot right in the middle! It tasted so good though, we ended up just cutting out the middle and eating it anyway!!

I once hosted a Pampered Chef party when my sister in law was starting out as a representative for that company. She asked me to demonstrate one of the knives and in front of a huge group of friends and family, I sliced off a good chunk of my finger. Had to leave the party for the ER. So embarrassing!!

Oh man…our company had prizes at our last health fair, and the Ninja was the one I coveted!!!! Would LOVE to win this one!!!
Kitchen mishap – which one do you want. The time I lit the microwave on fire by hitting the cook instead of timer button? The time I lit my parents oven on fire Christmas morning cooking pull-apart bread – my dad had to use the extinguisher, so no bread for us. Or…the time I placed sweet potato peels down our disposal and clogged up the kitchen sink on Thanksgiving. LOL – I’m a disaster…what can I say? 🙂

I had limited counter space in my small kitchen so I placed my Tupperware cake holder with the cake inside on top of one of the stove burners. Actual flames came shooting out from under the cake holder. I had to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. I’ve never seen or cleaned up a bigger mess in my entire life! We had to replace the burner plate due to it being ruined with melted plastic.

My husbands favorite sandwhich was a Reuben and I had found a recipe for a Reuben casserole and decided to try it, well I didn’t have all the exact ingredients and improvised a little. Well this was also a day he decided to surprise me with bringing a friend to dinner and this was not a recipe to improvise on, as I quickly found out when they both tried it and gagged immediately. It was horrible and all I had done was use a different thousand island dressing then listed and marble rye bread rather then the typical rye bread listed….yuck!!

My boyfriend (now husband) and I had plans to deep fry some “French fries” like his grandma did…. What we did was start a grease fire in my dads kitchen! We panicked and didn’t know what to do so we put baking soda on it. Bad idea. the fire flared up! I remember seeing the fire rolling along the kitchen ceiling….i ran outside. Ha! Thankfully my baby brother, who is smarter than us, walked up and put a lid on the pan which put our fire out…. My dad lived with burnt cabinets for about 15 years before finally re-doing his kitchen….. He would joke we should have let his kitchen burn down. Thanks for the fun giveaway! Sorry to hear about your kitchen sink.

So when my dear husband and I were engaged I swore up and down I was a fabulous baker. I attempted to make him brownies in his miniature sized oven. They burned so badly you could pull out the entire pan in one piece! Turns out the oven temp. wasn’t working correctly and was off a few HUNDRED degrees! We put an oven thermometer in there and never had much of a problem after that. Nice first impression, though. Makes a fun story to tell everyone that knows how much I love to bake and do it all the time.

The first time I made pork chops I somehow managed to put enough salt on them to cause permanant high blood pressure. I didn’t really know how to cook as a newlywed. I used all the seasonings I had, garlic salt, seasoned salt, salt and pepper. By the time I had taken a bite, my husband had dutifully eaten almost half of on because he didn’t want to hurt my feelings. I ordered a pizza. That was 15 years ago and to this day anytime something doesn’t turn out right he says, at least you didn’t serve me a salt lick!

I have gotten better over the years, but when I got married and was new to cooking, my poor husband ate some very bad meals. I remember salt was an issue for me. I either added to much of it or forgot to add it to the dish I was making. I also burned many, many, many things.

Mother’s Day… Breakfast in bed, served by my three beautiful, intelligent little ones. They did their own cooking, and, alas, burnt the eggs. Being creative cooks, they camouflaged the burnt color with yellow sugar sprinkles! Cold tea, dark toast, and “yummy” eggs… And then they stood proudly by and watched me eat every last bite. : )

When I was 16 my mom called running late and asked me to make a simple pot of rice to go with dinner she had cooked for ALL the company we were having that night. I started it on the stovetop on high so it would come to a boil quickly and then went into another room to read my book. 20 min later a started smelling something funny. I had charred the rice solidly to the bottom of the pan. I was able to scrape it out and make more before everyone got there, but the whole house stank of burned rice all evening.

I was newly married and made my husband a special birthday dinner. At the time our oven wasn’t working so I used our new toaster oven to bake everything for the meal. I served dinner and my herb rolls (which looked done on top)were a doughy mess underneath. When I served him his cheesecake for dessert I was in for another surprise. I removed the springform pan to find a jiggly (not fully cooked) cheesecake. I ended up in tears at my failed attempt to make a nice birthday dinner. I realized later I had the toaster oven on the wrong setting. My sweet husband had nothing but kind things to say and to this day we still laugh about that meal. 🙂

I was a kid and wanted to surprise my mom and bake some of her favorite lemon bars. The batter was rising in the bowl and I assumed it was supposed to do that. I put them in the oven and a few minutes later smoke was pouring out of the oven. The dough was spilling out of the pan like lava! My mother asked “how much baking powder did you put in?” I said “a cup, just like the recipe said.” Lol, I am very careful with measurement now!

I made a chicken pot pie and instead of laying the crust dough on top I stirred it into the pot pie. I was talking on the phone and not paying attention. I knew instantly what I had done when I pulled it out of the oven. It was a hot mess and tasted horrible. My husband and son were good sports and tried to eat it but we ended up going out to dinner.

Hubby loves, loves parsnips. Every Spring he digs them and we prepare them for the freezer. On one of the big pressure cookers batches I forgot to put the water in the bottom and the parsnips were burned beyond repair. Oh well, we still had 20 cups that year to freeze. HE STILL TALKS ABOUT THE LOSE OF THE BURNED ONES!!!:-(

I have two stories. When I first started cooking, I was boiling eggs and forgot that I had them on the stove. I was in another room and heard these loud pops – my eggs had boiled dry and were exploding! YIKES! Then, I was once sauteeing mushrooms and forgot that they were on the stove. I smelled something and went in to check on them – my whole pan was on fire! That scared the bejeebers out of me. Needless to say, I no longer leave my kitchen to work on something else when I’ve got something on my stovetop! And P.S. – I would absolutely love that blender! Happy Weekend!

When my husband and got married, we got a wonderful wok. Our very first time using it, we read that we had to smoke some oil in it to get rid of a coating it had on it. So my wonderful husband pored some veggie oil in and put her on the stove. A few minutes later we saw some smoke, and I said, “Honey, I think you should…” And then poof it caught on fire. Well I knew not to out water on it so I was running around looking for baking soda, and he was trying to get me to hand him the lid and it was a chaotic mess. We got the fire out without burning down the house and needless to say our wok is well seasoned!
