Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!

by Jamie

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.

Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook).

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me one of your kitchen mishaps. (Goodness knows we all have them!) Did you accidentally pour freshly made gravy down the sink? Did you burn your husbands birthday cake? Did your chicken soup boil over while you were eating chocolate and reading a great book?

I would love to hear your stories. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then, right! You may enter from now until Thursday March 6th. Winner will be announced and contacted on Friday March 7th.

Good luck, everyone!

The first time I used our wok with its built in ring for the stove, the oil caught fire. DH poured water on it (and he was a boy scout!!). Smoke all over the kitchen. Fire alarm went off and we didn’t know how to turn it off. The Fire Dept. showed up!! It was a mess AND my mother-in-law was visiting from out of town–her first time to our new home in Michigan!!

My son put some dish towels in the oven and I didn’t check it before I turned it on. We had a fire in the oven. Luckily, I caught it soon enough and was able to put it out with some baking soda! SCARY and a smoky house! Lesson learned. . . ALWAYS check the oven before turning it on–I have found many things in there.

Not my own kitchen but in laws new house. They had a brand new Gas stove and you know how on most gas stoves you turn the knob all the way to the right to get it to ignite? Not theirs, I turned one and snapped it right off……not my best moment!

I put a pot of water on the stove and to boil for pasta….kept checking but it seemed to take forever….I finally realized I had turned on the burner behind the one the pot was on, which had another (empty) skillet on it….and the cord to my fabulous Keurig was trapped underneath. Fortunately, the breaker did it’s job and cut the power to the outlet the cord was plugged into, but unfortunately the cord was melted through. 🙁

This is a combined mishap. A dear friend brought me home a bottle of clear mexican vanilla. I knew better then to leave it on the counter as the bottle is similar to water bottles. Lets just say my husband gave me the best smelling garbage disposal on the block. Thanks honey for dumping out the water bottles and recycling them.

I made enchilada thinking I had used some frozen mozzarella from the freezer. Turns out it was hash browns… Oops! I have since started labeling everything, even if I a sure I will remember what it is!

When I was young and just learning to bake I added 1 cup of baking soda (instead of 1 Tblspoon) to my sugar cookies. They tasted terrible as I’m sure you might guess.

Okay–more y husband’s misshap than mine. Not once, but three times he has allowed the pressure cooker to explode–leaving cabinets, the ceiling, the floor, etc covered in beans! Not a pretty sight–but a good way to get every surface in the kitchen cleaned!

I cleaned my kitchen one afternoon. Then, for dinner I was opening a can of tomato sauce for some enchiladas. The can slipped from my hand and crashed to the floor, splashing tomato sauce on the ceiling, on my newly washed dishes, and across my mopped floor. It was everywhere! Who knew such a small can of tomato sauce could go so far!

I was going to make some egg salad one day after work and I put a dozen eggs on to boil. I sat down in the recliner for “just a minute” and was awakened by the sound of exploding eggs because they had boiled dry!! They were all over the kitchen including the ceiling! What a mess!

I was emptying our fridge of leftovers a few weeks ago and had some things to put down the disposal. We’ll, after putting down some cheese that had solidified into its Tupperware, it clogged up our sink. I accidentally flooded the other side of the sink before I noticed though!

Most recent mishap was pulling a pizza out of the oven and it flipping itself over and toppings-side first/down right on our gross rug in front of the sink.

Ugh….

Being frugal, I wanted to get ALL the ketchup out of the bottle by spinning it (windmill style). Unaware the lid was not secured, I splattered a rainbow across the walls and ceiling of my kitchen! My children laughed while I fumed!!

I have loved reading all the other comments. I got a good laugh over many of them. It is nice to know that others have so many kitchen mishaps and it is not just me. The one my family probably remembers best is when I was making chicken rolls, not only for us but a neighbor who had just had a baby. They looked fantastic but when we went to eat I realized I had forgot one key ingredient; the chicken. Oh well, it was a pizza night for both families.

Started to clean my oven on the setting created for that. Too lazy to scrape bottom of oven. Door locks when the cycle starts and shortly after my oven caught on fire. Oops

My husband was draining the water from the spaghetti noodles and suprise!… The noodles came out too and it all went down the drain lickity split. We had guests at the table waiting. They had to wait a little longer…

Which to choose! When rushing out the door to church, I dropped the bottle that I had just filled with milk. The milk went mostly under the fridge. At Christmas time I was making my traditional bread that I have made 100 times, but jus for fun (lack of brain) I switched the amounts of flour and sugar. Things don’t turn out right when you do that.

I turned on the oven to preheat it and didn’t know their was a plastic bowl sitting inside with popcorn in it. Opened the oven door later to put in my casserole and the bowl was melted and stuck to the rack!! What a mess!!!

Left the flour out of the brownies once. There was also the time I added double baking soda to my muffins thinking that baking soda and baking powder were the same thing. They’re not. Also, I seasoned taco meat with Italian seasoning. It’s a wonder my family eats my food at all…

When I first married my husband 12+ years ago I was anxious to show off my cooking skills, but everything I made would burn. It took me a little while to figure out that the oven cooked about 50 to 100 degrees hotter than it said. It was a sad/frustrating/funny couple of weeks.

Just recently, I was getting a baked pot pie out of the oven with a hot pad and it started to fold in half and it fell on the floor upside down. It even splattered alittle bit on my feet. Owwy, it was hot. My husband was so sweet to clean it all up for me.

Unfortunately, I’ve done this more than once. I use a special pot (not a tea kettle) to boil water for tea. I fill the pot, put on the lid, then sit down with a book, and completely forget about it. I’ve never managed to boil all the water out of the pot, but I’ve had as little as 1/4 inch of water left in it when I finally remember, and jump up to check on it. One night I did it twice! It’s so much easier to make some sun tea – no chance of boiling away all your water.

I was trying to make homemade applesauce. After blending it up in my blender- I picked the pitcher part up to pour out of the blender, but the bottom of the pitcher broke off and it all slopped onto my kitchen floor in a sticky mess. Very frustrating after all the work of peeling/coring/boiling all day! Grrr… 🙂

While we were building our house many years ago, I made a recipe called Never Fail Cupcakes. I think I mixed up the Baking powder and baking soda. After all my brother in laws and neighbors finished eating and were back out working, I tried a cupcake. It tasted like Playdough. I was so embarassed but they pretended the cupcakes were fine!

When I was a young bride I froze everything trying to save money. One day I made a made a Red Raspberry Pie for my husband. I was so excited for him to tell me how it tasted. He took a bite and made a funny face. Like I said I froze everything. When I went to make the pie I accidentally grabbed a bag of beets, so it was half red raspberry, half beets. He was a great guy he ate it.

Just last night I came home from the 4 millionth basketball game of the week to find water pooling beneath my kitchen sink. . . grrr. I think the culprit is the dishwasher/drain/?? No water on the hoses or pipes, but lots of water on the bottom of the cupboard. sigh. It might be a longish weekend.

I thought I was using the “shake” part of the ground pepper container and used the pour right into dinner. It was a brand new container and half went in, since then I tape the pour side (until I need to fill the pepper shaker) so it does not happen again!

Hmmm…which one do I share? We didn’t have a dishwasher growing up and the first time I used one was when I went to college. We were out of dishwasher detergent and so I put in regular liquid dish soap. Our whole kitchen was full of bubbles when my roommates came home!

What a fun comment section! So great to know I’m not the only klutz in the kitchen. :o) My two favorites are the time I “tapped” the ketchup bottle on the counter to get the air bubble out (still have no idea what I was thinking), and ketchup exploded all over the ceiling, and most of the rest of the kitchen. The second was when the open bag of cake mix fell into the mixer and then I turned it on high instead of off. Strawberry cake mix EVERYWHERE!

A few years ago I decided to make a nice pot roast in the crock pot. I added some potatoes, carrots, and onions to go with the roast. We left for the day and when we got back home (hungry!) the kitchen didn’t smell wonderful! I looked in the crockpot to find a raw roast and crunchy veggies! I didn’t check to see if the crock pot was turned on! Needless to say, we didn’t eat a nice pot roast dinner that night!

Our kitchen mishaps usually on a holiday when the garbage disposal is working overtime. It doesn’t overflow the sink when ther is a clog, but floods the floor drain in the laundry room. Bad enough for just that, but then the water runs down the heat vent and into the basement!

I was making homemade salsa. I had done all the peeling and cutting of the tomatoes, chopped the onions and peppers, and set it on the stove to cook. Well, I decided to take a break while it simmered, but didn’t realize the bottom of the pan was burning the salsa. I had to dump all my hard work down the drain. Ugh!!

When my hubby and I first got married, I was excited to show off my homemaking skills. I knew how to cook and I knew I could do a pretty good job, too. Shortly after our wedding I took to the kitchen to make an awesome meal for my guy. To this day I don’t remember what I cooked, but apparently I needed all four burners on my stove top at least once because I set my newly-acquired one-cup measuring cup on one of the burners and shortly after noticed a burning smell. I burned a hole right through the bottom! And to top it off, I was so busy taking care of that mess that I also burned dinner. We had a good laugh about the measuring cup and my hubby ate every bit of his food without complaining a bit. He’s a good man. 😀

I was making pop up pizza for company (3 couples)and as I was going over things in my head I realized I had forgotten to put the cheese in the batter.
Once the pizza was cooked I added the cheese on top and we all had a good laugh. Perhaps it was the glass of wine I was drinking that made my memory lapse! Still ended up as a good meal though we have had a few laughs about it since then.

I took in foster children and was planning to make a nice dinner for them when they arrived. I was getting the flour canister from the top shelf and it slipped. The lid was not snapped on tight from the prior use, I guess, becuase it popped off. I was covered in flour and my kitchen looked like a white powder explosion when they arrived.

Thanksgiving dinner was at my house a few years ago. I was drying a glass and it broke in my hand and about sliced my thumb off. I spent an hour or so in the er, luckily it wasn’t busy. Then we had a great dinner and I was thrilled that I didn’t have to help with the dishes. Mishap turned miracle;).

The first year we were married, my husband was in the service and we invited some of his single friends that had nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. It was my first attemp at a big meal myself, even though I had been baking for several years. My gravy turned out like jello, and my crescent rolls at least 3 times larger than they should have been, even though they tasted good. Very embarrassing, but they were good sports.
