The Weekend Report: A Big Pot of Trouble

by Jamie

Last weekend while at beautiful Bear Lake, I found myself bustling around in my kitchen, making dinner for my family. I was feeling a little bit glum, I hate to admit. There were several issues weighing heavily on my mind. Nothing major, life changing or out of the ordinary. Just regular, day-to-day worries smoldering around, giving me grief. That’s the thing about worry and fear, you know. Once you let them hang around too long they build themselves up into A Big Pot of Trouble.

from the window

I looked out my kitchen window and noticed  two hulking, brown masses rummaging around in my backyard.

who is it

Woah, man. I thought. Look who has shown up for dinner.

see ya

A beautiful creature from the wild.

two at a time

One big Mama (or Daddy?) Moose and one young calf.

little guy

They were hungry…

close up

super hungry.

pretty

They pawed around in my backyard for nearly an hour.

Chewing on leaves.

Nibbling on bushes.

Storing up for the coming winter.

All of my neighbors came out quietly to peek at them.  People parked cars on the dirt road in front of my house and snuck to the backyard to take a few pictures and shoot a video or two. We were a horde of spellbound onlookers.

snacking again

It was an amazing sight to behold. Very out of the ordinary.

Made my day, in fact. My Big Pot of Troublesome Worries sort of evaporated for the time being.

Must have been the gentle reminder that there is beautiful, amazing, life going on all around me, every second of every day.

for blog

I thought about this scripture in Luke 12:6-7…

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. ”

beautiful

YOu have too much stuff being added to your blog site. It is so hard to get to your information.
I am sad because I enjoy your site but please…I have to say goodbye. Remove me. When you streamline and don’t have so much irrelevent interrupting info on you blog, invite me again.

Awww shucks Babs … you must not be able to multi-task, because apparently it is just too hard for you to scroll past ONE little post a week that might be about something other than food. I am so sorry that you are unable to process a post once a week about life, because, ya know … life is a beautiful thing!

Hugs Jamie! Keep sharing the yumminess of food and of life! 🙂

Thank you for this post. It was a beautiful reminder that there are more “recipes” in life than just food recipes (although I very much love your food recipes as well.) I enjoyed seeing and reading about God’s “recipe” for slowing down, giving your cares and worries to Him, and taking a moment to enjoy His creations. Loved this. Thanks.

Your blog is just fine as it is. The whole idea behind blogs is (in my opinion) a slow stroll to discover new things. NOT a race to the finish.

Bye bye Babs! Good riddance.Go follow someone else.
Please be reminded we are PEOPLE, not cookbooks. Our dreams, personalities, and lives are poured into our blogs. This one is one of the best BECAUSE of that. Thank the Lord we are not just food! True followers like the whole package and not just the parts that THEY choose. Sorry, this is an issue close to my heart.

I don’t think Babs meant the content of the blog itself. I think she meant all the ads. They pop up and move the content aside and block out the good stuff if you accidently roll over one. At least that’s the way I read her comment. I love the pictures, the inspirational post, and the recipes too. I’m a new subscriber and look forward to many more posts.

I agree with Sherri, I think babs has been attacked unfairly. I also love your site, recipes & posts with or without a recipe. The ads, however are very annoying & distracting. I think that is what babs meant, at least that is what I got from her comment. Replies to her comment have been very mean spirited. Thank you Jamie, I am a subscriber & love your recipes & stories. God bless!

Reply
Shari Addis September 8, 2014 - 3:30 pm

Most of the comments in reply to Babs were not mean spirited at all! With regard to the ads..those are what gives Jamie the ability to post and for us to get these recipes for free. Most of us just wanted Jamie to know that we love whatever she decides to post.

Mary September 10, 2014 - 1:39 pm

What I was referring to was that some people seemed to jump immediately to the conclusion that Babs was condemning Jamie for her post about God’s glory & not posting a recipe. I did not see it that way & that is why I agreed with Sherri. She stated that the ads block out the content & make it harder to read the blog. I realize that some ads are needed to help with cost, I also know they are obtrusive & cause some people to stop going to those sites. I consider comments such as “happy trails, babs”, “I’m glad to see babs go”, & “bye, bye babs, good riddance” to be rude & mean & unnecessary on a beautiful blog such as Jamie’s. Most comments were positive without attacking Babs, others were uncalled for. I simply agreed with Sherri, why did you not address her comment as you did mine, when essentially we said the same thing?

Hello all,
I wanted to thank you all for your comments on this post. I have contacted Babs (the first comment on this post) to discover a little more about her feedback. She doesn’t have a complaint about the written content, rather the ads that pop up and block the content… which I can understand and have been frustrated with myself. There has been a big shift in the online advertising industry over the past year and I am currently working with my publishing networks towards securing ads that aren’t so intrusive to the written content. Thanks for your patience and I apologize if you have come to a recipe that is covered with an ad that is hard to remove and obnoxious. (I know I have). Thanks to all of you regular followers who come here to read my words and try these recipes. I truly appreciate you. 🙂

I am NOT in sales, but each person has some control on “pop ups” & other types of advertising.
Check for small deltas (triangles) in the ad – normally in a corner. Click on any one to get specifics on the reason for & rules of
E-advertising and a way to stop (block) most – if not all unwanted ads. Yes they can be annoying, but without them we wouldn’t know what products are new or available. Someone was kind enough to show me how to do so and this needs to be shared.
