If you have followed my blog for a while now, you surely have noticed that I love cooking in the kitchen with my kids. This is my daughter Emily, about 5 years ago making No Bake Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies.
…and MyLittleTwinBoys (5 years ago) hard at work making Rainbow Cookies. How could I in good conscience send them out into the world without knowing how to make Rainbow Cookies, I ask you. That’s a skill that will stay with you for a lifetime, am I right?
Fast forward a few years and our days of making (and playing with!) Rainbow Cookie Dough have sadly passed. However, we still enjoy cooking together, though the recipes have become a little more refined. My daughter Anna makes Homemade Pizza that can knock your socks off, truly. I bet her future college roommates will like that more than Rainbow Cookie Dough, agreed? Suffice it to say, these kids of mine have learned few basic cooking skills and that makes me happy.
However, my crew of kids doesn’t know much about cooking when compared with this darling bunch of cuties. These kids are the talented contestants competing in MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Season 2, which premieres on Fox this Friday, November 6th. We are super excited to watch it this season and loved watching it last season. It’s a great show my whole family enjoys watching together, and can I just say…that doesn’t happen very often! You can hardly find a television show these days that’s clean enough for the whole family to watch. Not only is MASTERCHEF JUNIOR a good clean family show, but it’s super entertaining. The show gives 24 talented kids between the ages of 8-13 the opportunity show off their culinary talents and compete for a cash prize of $100,000. This year some of the challenges given to the promising hopefuls include a kid-only birthday party, a tag-team challenge, a cupcake frosting face-off and the fan-favorite pop-up restaurant. Sounds like fun!
Last year my family and I were absolutely amazed at the fabulous talent the contestants had. They were brilliant, darling and super funny. Their range of cooking expertise FAR surpassed Rainbow Cookie Dough and Homemade Pizza, let me tell you. I learned all kinds of great culinary tips, just by watching them. They were cooking virtuosos! It really is a great show to watch as a family, we highly recommend it! Don’t miss an all-new season of MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Fridays at 8/7c on FOX! You can also follow the show on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus and Tumblr. Here is a fun video clip as well…

I love to have them involved with measuring and pouring in the ingredients. Also to stir and ask them questions along the way so they know why we are doing what we are doing.
My daughter loves helping in any way she possibly can!
We like to make vegetable sushi together; the ids like to roll them up 🙂

Every Sunday my 12 yr old is in charge of deciding what we will have for dinner and then I help him prepare it. I love watching him get excited about learning to make his favorite dishes.
We like to make fun easy recipes with the kids. We like to make Ladybugs on the Log where we put peanut butter with raisins on top of celery. We make a fun apple toast recipe and a kid easy Chicken Quesadillas that my kids love. I find recipes that my kids will love and we do them together.

I love making our family’s favorite chili recipe with my older son. We’ve made it so many times that he can grab the needed cans from the pantry without looking at the recipe.
I have a kids cooking club once or twice a month with my grandkids. I got them aprons, chefs hats, and each a bin of cooking utensils. We have a great time making something fun; then they get to EAT it!
My daughter likes to help me make desserts. I let her add the ingredients and use the mixer.

my daughter loves to cook with me
I love to make breakfast with my son on the weekend. Especially pancakes.
I love to have the kids help make cookie dough measuring rolling cutting out. And I love when they watch all the time because that is how I learned watching my mom.
I tried to involve my son as much as possible as soon as he was old enough to start measuring dry ingredients. He goes to college next year, and I’m hoping I’ve given him the skillset to avoid living on Ramen and takeout for 4 years! 🙂
We love to bake treats for the whole family!
My daughters always fight over who gets to stir. They love stirring anything. Although, I think most of it gets all over the table. That is okay, because baking can be messy and fun.
My nephew “hated” chili until I had him make it with me, and,of course, he loved it. That was 15 years ago and he’s now a sous chef in a fine dining establishment. He’s come a long way way from making chili with Aunt Phyllis!
My daughter loves to pretend we are on a cooking show…so we video us making cookies and other great recipes. Lots of fun!
My 3 year old likes to help stir whatever I am stirring. My 11 year old is great at making salads, and milkshakes. My 13 year old will search recipes on your site, and make them on his own. I wish my 7 year old wanted to help more.
The kids love to help, sometimes I need to let them help more, and remember that just because I like to cook, and like things a certain way, doesn’t mean they can’t help. That’s the only way they will learn!
We love to make mummy dogs and not just for Halloweeen. The kids help wrap Lion House dough around hot dogs. Any leftover dough we like to make monkey bread.
I get a lot of help when it is cookies or pizza we are making!
My daughter is 4 and she sits at the bar and watches me cook every night. She loves being mommy’s little assistant.
I’ve never heard of that show! I’ll have to add it to my Tivo. I don’t have a child myself, but I remember one day several years ago when I was over at my mom’s house, I was standing there making a spinach salad for some reason. My little niece, who couldn’t have been more than 3, pulled up a chair and wanted to help. Darned if she didn’t stand there and help me break all the stems off one by one and throw the leaves into the bowl. It was the sweetest, most perfect helping you’ve ever seen. I’ve never forgotten it.
My 12 yr old loves trying new recipes. His latest is eclairs with chocolate mousse filling. He’s perfected those and loves to take them to church or scout activities when asked to bring something. He enjoys making food look fancy like on the food blogs or restaurants.

Oh My Word! We had the best time on our big summer vacation. We went with our entire extended family, which included my two nieces (10 yrs old) and nephew (8). We had our very own CHOPPED competition; and had a ball!!
We had to create dishes out of cheetos, chicken, etc.
It was on the top of our list of Favorite Parts of Vacation. Talk about a memory-making venture. So fun to cook with them!
my son likes to cut veggies for soups and salads

Probably baking with the kiddos would be my Go To… the classic chocolate chip cookie would be my #1
My kids love to help any way they can in the kitchen. I just need to remember to be patient and let them.
I like to have them pick out the recipes that not only they would like to make, but what they think they are capable of making
We let our teen girls each cook one night a week. They love to plan, search pinterest and help shop for their night. I’m their helper as they cook. It’s a winner for us!
My favorite way to get them involved is to kick them out of the kitchen for the cooking part and invite them back to lick the beaters, spoons, and bowl!
I love baking Christmas cookies and other holiday treats with my 3 children. They love to lick the spoon 🙂
I love to bake Christmas cookies with my grandchildren.
I have my kids help me with easy stuff right now like stirring or getting all the ingredients for a meal. Either that or I have them get the dishes and silverware for it. I also have them do toast, boiled eggs and reheating things in the toaster oven.
Amazing how much less kids complain about dinner when they help make it! I love it.
My kids love to help measure, “dump” in the ingredients, but especially to stir. They are always asking to help me cook so I’m always trying to find ways for them to be involved.
The Christmas season is when my kids like to join me in the kitchen–all those cookies and candies lure them in for some fun!
I love to have my boys help out by chopping up ingredients, pouring, stirring. My eldest loves to help grate cheese. They also enjoy washing up the dishes afterwards!
I love make the kids help in making cookies, salads or fill their own pizza.
If is involves “breaking eggs”, they’re IN…so funny!
well I don’t have kids but I recently got to cook with my 5 year old nephew..he helped me measure the ingredients to your apple fritter recipe..I loved having him help me..as I think it made him less shy of me…we recently moved closer to our families here in preston idaho and i haven’t seen him since he was 1 so I am super excited to have him baking with me again.:)
Favorite thing to make with my kids by far is Christmas Candy! So excited for the upcoming holidays.
We like making dinner together, especially tacos
One way is homemade pizza, it is a good way to get them to put veggies as toppings and then they will eat it. Also, tacos with homemade tortilla shells! In the fall I have a cookie recipe for sturdy gingerbread men and it is easy to decorate with bits of raisins and a few fun adds! We like to make homemade pops, and kids can choose the fruit and you know they’ll love it!
Cooking with my grandchildren is just so much fun, we do complete meals, and all kinds of goodies. It’s like what are we gonna cook today Granny??
We love to make holiday cookies and cupcakes. We use colored icing, sprinkles and candy to decorate according to the season.
My daughter is just 11-months old, but I love showing her the ingredients I’m cooking with and letting her feel the different textures of the food and/or packaging.
