MASTERCHEF JUNIOR and Cooking with Kids!

by Jamie

If you have followed my blog for a while now, you surely have noticed that I love cooking in the kitchen with my kids. This is my daughter Emily, about 5 years ago making No Bake Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies.

…and MyLittleTwinBoys (5 years ago) hard at work making Rainbow Cookies. How could I in good conscience send them out into the world without knowing how to make Rainbow Cookies, I ask you. That’s a skill that will stay with you for a lifetime, am I right?

Fast forward a few years and our days of making (and playing with!) Rainbow Cookie Dough have sadly passed. However, we still enjoy cooking together, though the recipes have become a little more refined. My daughter Anna makes Homemade Pizza that can knock your socks off, truly. I bet her future college roommates will like that more than Rainbow Cookie Dough, agreed? Suffice it to say, these kids of mine have learned few basic cooking skills and that makes me happy.

However, my crew of kids doesn’t know much about cooking when compared with this darling bunch of cuties. These kids are the talented contestants competing in MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Season 2, which premieres on Fox this Friday, November 6th. We are super excited to watch it this season and loved watching it last season. It’s a great show my whole family enjoys watching together, and can I just say…that doesn’t happen very often! You can hardly find a television show these days that’s clean enough for the whole family to watch. Not only is MASTERCHEF JUNIOR a good clean family show, but it’s super entertaining. The show gives 24 talented kids between the ages of 8-13 the opportunity show off their culinary talents and compete for a cash prize of $100,000. This year some of the challenges given to the promising hopefuls include a kid-only birthday party, a tag-team challenge, a cupcake frosting face-off and the fan-favorite pop-up restaurant. Sounds like fun!

Last year my family and I were absolutely amazed at the fabulous talent the contestants had. They were brilliant, darling and super funny. Their range of cooking expertise FAR surpassed Rainbow Cookie Dough and Homemade Pizza, let me tell you.  I learned all kinds of great culinary tips, just by watching them. They were cooking virtuosos! It really is a great show to watch as a family, we highly recommend it! Don’t miss an all-new season of MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Fridays at 8/7c on FOX! You can also follow the show on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus and Tumblr. Here is a fun video clip as well…

Hello all,
I love to bake with my daughter. I started doing it with her when she was about two years old. We have now moved on to chopping veggies for salads. We also enjoy watching the food network together. I love cooking with kids!

I love to have my little brothers and sisters by my side as I bake. As they get older, I like to give them more and more opportunities to take charge, and now they can pretty much give me a run for my money. 🙂

I always loved baking with the kids I used to babysit. Having them help make their favorite treats seemed to make them appreciate them more, and I was even able to sneak in a few baking-related science lessons.

My daughter and I have always cooked together. Now that she’s older and lives in another city we don’t get to do it as often. I would have to say my favorite memories are Christmas cookies and holiday meals. It seems like something always goes wrong and we have another memory to share.
