If you have followed my blog for a while now, you surely have noticed that I love cooking in the kitchen with my kids. This is my daughter Emily, about 5 years ago making No Bake Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies.
…and MyLittleTwinBoys (5 years ago) hard at work making Rainbow Cookies. How could I in good conscience send them out into the world without knowing how to make Rainbow Cookies, I ask you. That’s a skill that will stay with you for a lifetime, am I right?
Fast forward a few years and our days of making (and playing with!) Rainbow Cookie Dough have sadly passed. However, we still enjoy cooking together, though the recipes have become a little more refined. My daughter Anna makes Homemade Pizza that can knock your socks off, truly. I bet her future college roommates will like that more than Rainbow Cookie Dough, agreed? Suffice it to say, these kids of mine have learned few basic cooking skills and that makes me happy.
However, my crew of kids doesn’t know much about cooking when compared with this darling bunch of cuties. These kids are the talented contestants competing in MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Season 2, which premieres on Fox this Friday, November 6th. We are super excited to watch it this season and loved watching it last season. It’s a great show my whole family enjoys watching together, and can I just say…that doesn’t happen very often! You can hardly find a television show these days that’s clean enough for the whole family to watch. Not only is MASTERCHEF JUNIOR a good clean family show, but it’s super entertaining. The show gives 24 talented kids between the ages of 8-13 the opportunity show off their culinary talents and compete for a cash prize of $100,000. This year some of the challenges given to the promising hopefuls include a kid-only birthday party, a tag-team challenge, a cupcake frosting face-off and the fan-favorite pop-up restaurant. Sounds like fun!
Last year my family and I were absolutely amazed at the fabulous talent the contestants had. They were brilliant, darling and super funny. Their range of cooking expertise FAR surpassed Rainbow Cookie Dough and Homemade Pizza, let me tell you. I learned all kinds of great culinary tips, just by watching them. They were cooking virtuosos! It really is a great show to watch as a family, we highly recommend it! Don’t miss an all-new season of MASTERCHEF JUNIOR Fridays at 8/7c on FOX! You can also follow the show on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus and Tumblr. Here is a fun video clip as well…

We love making sweets and breakfasts but are expanding to yeast doughs, meals, etc.
We love to make Sunday dinner together:)
My favorite way to cook with daughter is to have her help measure out ingredients, roll out dough or cookie dough to make cookies and find ingredients in the fridge and kitchen. I also have her mix ingredients in a bowl.

I like making baked goods with kids. It’s usually fairly simple, it’s easy to find ways for them to help and they love the finished product so it’s easy to get them into it.

I have my little one dump and stir mixes together. Keeps her occupied for sure! 🙂
I like to mix the ingredients myself, then have them help with things like rolling cookie dough into balls, etc. That way we all have a good time.

I love having my littles sit on the counter to dump in the measured ingredients into whatever we may have been making. Now as my kids are aging, they are starting to do the whole recipe by themselves. I hope they have as fond of memories of cooking together as I do.
Make everything you can into shapes.. It makes cooking so fun!

By letting them read the package or boxes, collect the right ingredients and do all of the measuring themselves!
When they’re little I just measure out the stuff in advance so they can pour and stir. As they get older they can measure and learn to crack the eggs & stuff.
Me and my 4 year old son made a homemade pizza a few days ago it did not turn out well but we had fun

My granddaughter and I do a lot of cooking together. She helps me make dinner as well as plan out the weekly menu along with trying new recipes to bake a few times per month.

We like to cook with the kids measuring ingredients and mixing them together.
I won’t have my first kiddo until January but I love cooking with kids for my job in child nutrition. It is so fun to find hands-on cooking. Mixing, mashing, and taste-testing are especially kid-friendly jobs. I love letting them decorate desserts as well.
We love to bake together. My son will help me measuring and mixing ingredients.

I love to have my granddaughter help me meal plan, do the prep work as well as assist in making dinner. We also take on baking projects a couple of times a month for something new she wants to learn how to make.
My little man loves to cook with me. He especially like to bake muffins. He’s only 3, but he’s pretty good at helping me measure, stir, and telling me to put the batter in the right muffin cups. 🙂
We like to make fruit pizza and smoothie together.

Have you ever thought about teaching a class teaching parents good techniques to use to help children learn to cook? I’m sure it would be awesome! My 9 year loves to help cook and we use your website because it uses pictures with the instructions. She is great at pies!
Let me start off by saying that I loved to be in the kitchen with my Mom and Grandma when I was a young boy, learning many things. My goal is to have my two boys know what to do in the kitchen when they get older beyond boiling water! I enjoy making things from scratch and let them choose their own add-ins/toppers when we make dishes like Mac & Cheese, pizza and their favorite…Pancakes! Letting kids make choices every so often makes them feel good, they even surprise me sometimes and choose vegetables! Pancake bars are fun, I pour on the batter and they toss on the mix-ins, be it fruit or sweets like chocolate, marshmallows and candy. They usually go for the sweet but every so often they surprise me with savory choices.

I always loved to give my kids dough and let them each create their own individual pizzas.

I love letting my kiddos read the recipe and figure out the which tools to use to measure the ingredients. I still get a little nervous with them by the stove, so it’s mostly countertop activities for us.
My favorite way to cook with my kids is baking treats!
