12 Minute Blackened Skillet Salmon and Perfect Seafood Seasoning

by Jamie

Several weeks ago I was standing in the checkout line at Costco buying some beautiful salmon fillets. The checker engaged me in a lengthy conversation about how to make Blackened Salmon and what spices work well. What could a food blogger like myself do, but come home and test out his advice. 🙂 It was spot on and I’m happy to say this Blackened Salmon I have to share with you today is some of the best I’ve ever made or tried. The seasoning is super simple (only 4 ingredients!) and the cooking technique is so quick you won’t believe it…12 minutes start to finish. Now, that is my kind of recipe. My family and I have fallen in love with this tasty dish. Hope you will, too! The seasoning mix listed in the recipe is much more than you will need for one recipe. Store it in a glass jar with a lid to pull out and use next time you are making seafood of any kind. It’s fantastic on Mahi Mahi, Shrimp, Cod, Talapia…any kind of seafood, really.

Super simple, super fabulous!

It would be fantastic served with Roasted Carrots, Roasted Asparagus , Lemon Butter Rice or even Oven Baked Fries.

12 Minute Blackened Skillet Salmon and Perfect Seafood Seasoning

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Total Time: 17 minutes

Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients

PERFECT SEAFOOD SEASONING: This makes much more than you need for 4 servings.
2 Tb garlic salt
2 Tb lemon pepper
2 Tb dill
2 Tb smoked paprika
4 Salmon fillets (I buy them frozen at Costco, let thaw at room temperature)
cooking spray or olive oil

Instructions

1. Mix all seasonings in a small glass jar with a lid, for easy storage.
2. Grab your salmon fillets and generously sprinkle them on both sides with the seasoning. Make sure not to leave out the smoked paprika. It's essential to making the fish take on that "blackening" feature that is so delicious.
3. Heat a skillet up over medium high heat. Spray generously with cooking spray (or add just a tiny bit of olive oil).
4. Add your salmon and allow it to cook for about 2 minutes, or until it takes on a nice darkening. Make sure not to let it burn. Turn the salmon over and add just a bit of water (about 1-2 Tb) to the pan. Cover and allow the fish to cook through. Should only take about 4-5 minutes. Remove the lid and allow the salmon to darken (should only take about 2 minutes).
5. When the salmon flakes easily with a fork it's done.
6. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

The Perfect Seafood Seasoning recipe will yield much more than you need to make 4 salmon fillets. Keep it in a glass jar with a lid for easy storage, then pull it out the next time you are making fish. It's delicious!

Do I start with the skin side down first, or the flesh side?

Hi Susan,
Thanks for your question. I buy fillets that already have the skin removed. If you have fish with skin on it, I would star with the skin side first. Best of luck!

I’m curious to find out what blog platform you happen to be using?
I’m experiencing some small security problems
with my latest website and I would like to find something more risk-free.
Do you have any recommendations?
