 THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

No recipe today my friends.

Please don’t panic. I have not fallen out of love with food. I’ll be sharing two new recipes with you before the week is complete. If you can’t wait that long click over to my recipe file where more than 400 recipes are just waiting to become your new best friend.

I am taking a little recipe break, because I have recently read a book that is so amazing and inspirational, I couldn’t help but tell you about it. Just in case you know how to read, and enjoy doing so on a regular basis. 🙂

Unbroken is written by Laura Hillenbrand. It’s the biography of Louie Zampernini, Olympian Athlete and World War II survivor.
It is difficult to read at times, due to the insanely harsh and unbelievable conditions Mr. Zampernini experienced during the war. However, the story is compelling, riveting and immensely moving. It’s the kind of book that makes you grateful just to lay your head down at night on a clean pillow in the safety of your own home. Page after page I found myself in complete awe of Louie Zampernini, his constant will to live, the strength of his character, and his kindness to those suffering around him. It left me wanting to be better, do better, live better.

Read it, my friends. Your time will be well spent.

I would love to order a copy of this book for TWO of you. To enter the giveaway, leave me a comment telling me one of your favorite books, and why you loved it. Also, please leave your email address with your comment. You can enter from now until Sunday night at midnight. The winners will be announced Monday morning bright and early with the sunshine.

Have a good day, everyone! See you back here soon. Calories will be included in the next several posts. 🙂

  1. One of my favorites is Same Kind of Different as Me. It is an amazing and true story of how one woman in Texas made the difference in the lives of so many others around her. She stepped out of her comfort zone, and pushed her husband out of his, to enhance the lives of those around them. It is a great story that demonstrates how people can turn difficult times into rewarding experiences. [email protected]

  2. My all time fav book is THE HIDING PLACE … the experiences she went thru for survival … concentration camps … Nazi Germany … oh my goodness … the will to live! Can't wait to read this book you have recommended … thank U! I have just discovered your wonderful blog 🙂 [email protected]

  3. My favorite is As I Have Loved You by Kitty DeRuyter. She writes her TRUE STORY so clearly you can feel the humidity and smell the foliage… It is about a girl who is born in Indonesia and during her childhood WWII breaks out and her wealthy families home is seized and her father escapes the Japanese and becomes a freedom fighter. This causes the Japanese to hold the family hostage, eventually sending them into internment camps… the story is AMAZING and life changing! [email protected]

  4. I recently read The Help and enjoyed it a lot. My favorite book tends to be whatever I'm reading at the moment. I love books about WWII, mainly because my mom and her family lived in Belgium during that difficult time. This book sounds amazing, I would love a chance to win a copy and am always looking forward to a great read. [email protected]

  5. My favorite book as of yet is Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Don't judge it by the movie, they never do it justice. I'm also reading The Happiness Project, it was a #1 on New York Best Seller List. So Good, so far. Thanks Jamie for the recommendation. [email protected]

  6. Reading is one of my passions in life, so much that I will forgo everything else so that I can read just one more chapter until the book is finished. The books that I have read most recently are: “The Help”, “Sarah's Key”, and “The Hunger Game” series. One of my favorites was from my childhood “Baby Island”, my friends and I would play out the story during recess. Several Christmas's ago my daughters surprised me with a copy of the book, sweet childhood memories.
