Ninja Blender Giveaway, baby!


Today, I really REALLY wanted to post a fabulous new recipe for you all. That was my plan all week-long, you see. But as luck would have it, my good intentions were rudely interrupted by fact that my kitchen sink simply decided to come unglued from her usual spot and fell right out from under the counter-top leaving me with no running water (or sink!) in my kitchen and 500 dirty dishes just begging to be cleaned.

This is not a joke.

Would I lie to you?

No way, man. I would not.

Good times around here, my friends. After I washed the previously mentioned 500 dishes (give or take 450) in my bathtub during the late night hours, I had a good nights rest and woke up ready and willing to serve my family cheap, five dollar pizza for the duration my small kitchen crisis. (Which should be over in the next 24 hours or so. At least that was the good news given to me today by MyHandsomeHusband aka Repair Man of Wonder).

And so, dear readers, instead of a new recipe for you today I am giving away one of my favorite kitchen appliances of all time.


Isn’t she a beauty!

I would love to give one of you lucky readers a brand spanking new Ninja Kitchen System 1200 (BL700), complete with a small and large pitcher and many different cutting blades (including a whipping blade and dough hook). 

I absolutely adore this contraption. I use it for all kinds of things, including smoothie making, chopping nuts, veggies, blending up graham cracker crumbs for crusts, making salad dressings, whipping cream, blending dips..etc, etc, etc…I have even used it in a pinch to make cookie dough and bread dough! Amazing, it is.

I use mine every day.

Just like I used to use my kitchen sink every day.

Until she went rogue on me. Dang thing. Hoping once she has been restored to her full glory, we can be friends again. She and I spend a lot of time together after all. 🙂

    I thought I had turned my stove off, but had only turned it down to low. At the same time I was busy baking, and after taking a casserole out of the oven I just threw the potholder on the stove, turned off the oven, and walked out of the kitchen. About a half hour later I was starting to smell something but thought it was someone’s fireplace I was smelling. No, I eventually discovered that my kitchen towel was smoldering and ready to burst into flames. I found it just in time! It took hours to get the smell out of the house. 😀

    When we were first married, my husband made me a delicious dinner all by himself. It was baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and peach jello. After a few years went by, I mentioned to him that that delicious dinner “looked all beige”, even though it tasted so good. Now, and for the last 35 years, he compliments me when I cook him a “colorful” dinner!

    More often times than not, I melt something that shouldn’t be melted when cooking in the kitchen, unintentionally of course! When in the kitchen one day, I placed a plastic black pepper holder on top of one of the burners on my parent’s stove. Unbeknownst to me, the burner was on and by the time I took it off, we had “the leaning tower of pepper!” I’ve officially been named the family “melter!”

    We recently moved into a home that has an electric stove top, not gas as all our previous homes have had. Call me crazy, I didn’t like the look of the spiral coils, so I went to the Dollar Tree and bought some super cute burner covers to put on top of the burners. We hadn’t had them on for longer than ten minutes when I took one burner cover off, plopped my tea kettle down, and turned the burner on high. At least, I THOUGHT it was that burner. After a few minutes, we started to smell a really weird burning smell…..yeah, I had turned on the wrong burner. And my brand new, super cute burner cover was now black in the middle, all the way through.

    Of course, the kicker was, I moved that one to the back where you couldn’t see it….but my husband did the exact same thing the next day. So now they match.

    I made wood smoothie twice, oops! My blender wasn’t working so well so I stuck the spoon in to help things along and next thing you know we are drinking wood shards. Needless to say we could use the new blender!

    When my son was about three, he put a plastic bowl with mini pancakes and a fork in the microwave. I have no idea how long it was on before I smelled the smoke, but when I got to the microwave, the bowl was melted flat and the pancakes looked like charcoal and were still on fire. The microwave never worked again and had to be replaced. But even worse, we had company coming that day and the house smelled terrible. My son is 12 now and still hasn’t lived it down, but, he’s actually a pretty good cook.

    It was only 5:00 in the morning and I was making my lunch for work.
    I was cooking a hot dog for my lunch. It was frozen, so I put it in a pan of water and turned the burner. Meanwhile, I sat down at the computer to read my e-mail. A little while later, the smoke alarm went off, and I couldn’t figure out why!
    I had bolied my hot dog down to a black mess in the pan, and also woke my husband up. lol

    The first thing that came to mind was when my husband took my blender to work one evening….(he’s a preacher)…and he decided to do an illustration with dirt/water/mud/something. Well, the dirt he chose was full of rocks and grass!! He put it in my blender!! What was he thinking?! I am pretty sure that I literally gasped from the congregation and the look on the other people’s faces looking at me was priceless. Haha!! I have been blenderless for a long time now, since then,so this giveaway would be perfect to win!

    One of my worst messes came when I was using a pressure cooker to cook a beef roast. It got cooking just fine, but I got distracted and forgot about it until I hear a loud noise in the kitchen. I came in to find beef broth all over! It even hit the ceiling and of course all the cabinets and stove too. What a mess!

    Each Christmas, we get together with the extended family to celebrate. Each family prepares a dish for the meal and our dish this year was Cheesy Potatoes. In order to get this dish prepared in time, I turned on the stove to preheat while we were opening presents. Everything was going great until we began to smell something awful. As we rounded the corner to check it out, thick gray smoke was pouring out of the kitchen into the rest of the house. Our kitchen is lacking in storage and every available space was being used at the time. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to remove the 6 cake pans and their plastic lids from the stove prior to preheating. We turned off the stove and threw open the windows on one of the coldest, most blustery Ohio Christmas days. Our house was filled with toxic smoke so we had no choice. We could no longer use the original potatoes due to them being engulfed in the fumes, our house smelled terrible, and we were freezing. Our neighbors already thought we were a bit unusual, so this added to their amusement. After a bit of searching, we were able to find some open stores and repurchase the ingredients we had destroyed. We ended up cooking the dish when we arrived for dinner and serving them alongside dessert. Our stove was destroyed, but we had given the neighbors some holiday entertainment and given the family a story to share each Christmas for lots of years to come.

    I had seen my mother in law steam her wedding ring in the kitchen over a pan of boiling water, hanging on a rod. I decided to to this and hung mine on a pencil over the boiling water. Unfortunately I forgot about it until it caught the pencil on fire and burned my wedding ring black. I was DEVASTATED! Luckily I called the place where my amazingly kind and fabulous husband bought it and found that there is a method called ‘pickling’ that restored it to its original glory. It is still looking great 25 years later:)

    I forgot I had eggs boiling on the stove….horrible smell, egg pieces everywhere. I couldn’t fix anything that called for boiled eggs for months!!

    When I was first learning to cook I substituted can Salmon for tuna. It just didnt work out. Even the DOGS wouldnt eat it. Smelled terrible. It was a delivery kind of night.

    My most recent mishap was while I was making your balsamic glazed pork roast. While making the glaze I added a tablespoon of baking soda instead of cornstarch…it immediately boiled over onto my flat top range creating a sticky burned mess that was really difficult to clean. I couldn’t figure out why it boiled over until I went back and looked at what I actually added. Whoopsie. Quickly made another batch and enjoyed the meal 🙂

    I remember cooking oatmeal one morning when my son was a baby and I left it cooking on the stove and forgot about it. I walked thru the house and thought, wow, I smell coffee…it was the oatmeal burning to the bottom of the pan where I had completely forgotten about it! So glad I didn’t burn the house down that day!!

    My most common mishap is blending my son’s pureed foods in the blender and not having the bottom screwed on tightly enough…perhaps I’m rushing too often or maybe I need a new blender!

    Have you ever cracked an egg open for a recipe only to see it hit the counter or sink instead of the intended bowl?! “Oops what am I doing” you think to yourself…well I may have done this more times than I’d care to share. : – )

    So none of my mishaps are very interesting, but my mom has the best one- it has become part of our family lore! The first time she cooked for my DAd, she cooked a turkey breast and was making real gravy. She couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t thickening. She finally realized she had been using XXX Sugar instead of flour! 🙂

    Growing up we didn’t have a dishwasher. My first apartment after I was married to my handsome husband I had a dishwasher! I didn’t realize it mattered if you used regular dish soap or dishwasher soap. I found out quickly when our little kitchen was filled full of suds pouring out of our dishwasher! Bubbles are not easy to clean up. Water only makes more bubbles!

    I was going to add some sauce I had made in a pan on the stove to the blender and hit the top of the blender and spilled my sauce all over the counter and floor. UGH!!

    Thanks for the fun giveaway! Sadly, I’ve had quite a few kitchen mishaps/disasters!!!! One of my best mihaps was putting three freshly baked loaves on pumpkin chocolate chip bread on a cooling rack, which I set on a hot burner on my stove, by accident. Before I knew it my daughter told me there was smoke in the kitchen and I had started my pumpkin bread on fire!

    I tried to boil eggs in the microwave oven. After a few minutes of cooking, I heard a loud explosion and a bang. The microwave oven had blown open and there was egg yolk and drippy egg whites EVERYWHERE – the microwave, the walls,… Good thing I was not standing there looking at the egg cooking. It was an absolute mess to clean! What was I thinking??

    I once broiled an angel food cake after my roommate accidentally placed the temperature knob on at the wrong setting after cleaning the stovetop…One in a million kitchen fails I’ve experienced!

    I had set my rice cooker on the flat top stove while I was cleaning the counters off… when I got to the stove top I accidentally hit the knob and turned the burner on right where my rice cooker was sitting! I ended up with a house that smelled like burnt rubber and a BIG mess on the flat top!

    I was making a pumpkin savory soup and I used canned pumpkin pie filling instead of canned pumpkin. It was awful and sweet but my good natured husband attempted to eat it anyways!

    My biggest mess in the kitchen was not exactly a cooking mess, but a “putting soda in the refrigerator mess”. It sounds simple enough, unless you drop a 24 oz. bottle straight down onto a ceramic tile floor. The plastic bottle cracked. The warm soda fizzed. The bottle became a bottle rocket of sorts, spinning and spewing diet Coke over ALL of my cabinets (upper and lower), the stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, countertops, walls and even the baseboards on the far side of the kitchen island. Oh, and the ceiling, which had to to be repainted. I almost forgot the blinds on two large windows. Every slat. I’m not ready to laugh about it yet; the pain is too fresh.

    We were newly married and my husband’s sister and her husband were visiting us for the first time. I had put some shortcake to go with strawberries in the oven right before they arrived. It burned as we were showing them around the apartment, so I whipped up a new batch. That batch, I managed to under cook.

    Oh boy what a fun idea! Read all the stories & it made my day. My story doesn’t even compare. I did have an awful day though. I was making an angel food cake and laid out my eggs on the counter to crack them into a bowl. I turned aside for a minute and heard several thuds only to discover all the eggs rolled off the counter onto the floor. After coming home with a new carton, I attempted my cake once again but successfully. However, after baking it, I set it on the counter to cool and my wonderful little puppy climbed on the counter and enjoyed the cake for all of us.

    When my son was younger I needed a quick hiding place for his plastice hammer that he was using to bang my poor kitchen cabinets to death. When he was not looking I opened the oven and threw the hammer in. Needless to say, I forgot the hammer until the next time I preheated the oven. Results: stinky,stinky house and one melted hammer! 🙂

    My first time trying to make pancakes resulted in a fire. We had a griddle pan we always used to cook the pancakes and it had a wooden handle. I turned on the stove thinking that the pan was warming up but I turned on the wrong burner. Needless to say, the handle went up in flames. But I didn’t let that deter me and I’m a lot better in the kitchen now.

    A couple weeks ago I made eggs for breakfast, like I normally do, but this time my two year old daughter helped me and some eggs ended up under the burner and I forgot to clean them up. Well the day goes by and it is time to get dinner on. My husband is gone for the night and I have all four of my kids home with a lot of noise including a crying baby because she has a sixth sense and knows that I am making dinner and that is when she decides that only I can hold her. So I turn on the burner with the forgotten egg under it and all the sudden there is tons of smoke and all my fire alarms start going off! I frantically try to get them off, but to no avail. My kids tell me they are going outside. And I am left with screaming alarms for more minutes than I care to remember. In the end they stopped. Dinner was still good and we made it through the night! Next time I think I will clean up the egg…

    My kitchen mishap was when I was boiling potatoes for mashed potatoes. I had a friend stop by and we got to chatting and without even realizing it, I had boiled all of the water out of the pan and I was left with a blackened mess of potatoes. No mashed potatoes and a pot that took days to fully clean and I was not a happy camper…lol.

    Mine mishap happened years ago when I first married. I was fixing Thanksgiving dinner, my first one, and I thought I had everything great. Made the turkey and sides and put everything on the table and my husband started to carve the bird and I had left the liver and gizzards in the bag inside the bird! Needless to say I have never done that again!

    When I was first learning to cook, I wanted to make Snickerdoodle cookies for my family. I followed the recipe exactly, or so I thought. The cookies came out beautifully- except they made your mouth hurt! Instead of 1/4 tsp of salt… I had put in 1/4 cup!! I still think about them everytime I make cookies.

    My glass oven door exploded about a month ago. Luckily, no one was near the thing when it decided to jump off the oven, making the loudest noise possible and go crashing all over the floor. Because of the safety glass feature, the glass continued to pop from larger pieces, to smaller and smaller pieces, until all I had were tiny pea size things of glass to try and pick up… a bit like pop rocks for a couple of hours. It was the biggest mess…I still find bits of glass every time I pull out that darn oven drawer .

    My most memorable kitchen mistake was grabbing a pan out of the oven… without oven mitts 🙂 !

    When I met my husband, I literally could not boil an egg. One day he wanted a cherry pie so I thought “Even I can’t screw this up, just pull it out of the freezer, pop it in the oven and pull it out” problem. Except for the fact that I knew nothing about baking. After putting the pie in the oven, I noticed a lever that slid left to right on the oven. I mistakenly thought it was a “regular” lock so nobody would peek at my masterpiece. Turns out the lock was the safety lock for when you clean the oven and after a frantic call to the manufacturer, there was nothing I could do except watch this pie bake at 500 degrees while the oven cleaned itself. I had a pie that was scorched on top and raw at the bottom. I was just glad I didn’t burn down my future mother in law’s kitchen!!

    Growing up, my mother never had enough storage for her pans, so she would put a few in the oven and take them out when she needed to bake. I followed that bad habit, only to store my pans in a dishpan within the oven. Totally forgetting one day, I preheated the oven, forgetting about the dishpan. Needless to say it melted into a disaster in my oven with a smell that took weeks to go away.

    My first and only attempt at canning salsa. During the sealing of the lids process one of the large jars of salsa blew up. Salsa and glass everywhere! Scared the heck out of me. I haven’t been brave enough to try again.

    It was our first Thanksgiving.I was so nervous.My Family was coming and I wanted everything to turn out perfect.Needless to say…after Mom and I pulled the done turkey out of the oven..Mom said,It smells so good..As we carved the turkey—Mom discovered I left the liver and goblets in the turkey..I did not know I was suppose to remove them.I was so embarrassed.Years later I found out she told my husband. It still tasted good !

    I was fixing an early dinner for company, as I was making the gravy I started to multi task knowing it was the last thing to do. I noticed the gravy was starting to bubble up more than usual but being in a hurry to keep everything hot on the table. I served it. To my embarrassment I had accidently used baking soda instead of cornstarch. Always taste what you put on the table first! Lesson learned!! I have never heard the end of it yet!

    i made asparagus soup for the family, i used mt blender to smooth it all out into a creamy pot of yum added the asparagus heads and put the blender into the sink and filled it with cold water to rinse it, my blender was made of glass, really hot soup to freezing cold water oops, no more blender, so no more soup for the family so this would be awesome right now x

    I have to share this one with you guys. Have you ever made a casserole for dinner with guests coming over to find a gel fingernail in the casserole? I did! My girlfriend found on her plate! Just glad it was her. Great laugh!

    My latest kitchen disaster happened earlier this week. When I make pancakes,I use a platter from my grandma for the stacking of same. Usually, if I am going to reheat them I get a different plate. I decided to try heating them on that platter. I watched carefully-no sparks-should be safe. Then it came time to take them out of the microwave all two pieces of the platter.

    I can’t remember all the stupid stunts I’ve pulled in the kitchen. One was putting a plastic cutting board behind the burner on the stove and it fell on burner, caught fire. Thankful I had a fire alarm.

    You know your healthy mandarins quinoa “salad?” (Can’t remember what it’s called) I planned to have it on a picnic with my husband- Ii was so excited, prepped all the toppings, packed it all up and drove to a park to meet my husband on his way home from work. So romantic. When I pulled everything out of the bag I realized I didn’t back the yummy dressing AND I didn’t pack forks! It was a bust, we packed it all back up and are dinner at home:(

    One of my many fails in the kitchen was when I baked apple pie from scratch for my son’s birthday. As I took it out of the oven I lost my grip on the glass pie plate and it started falling toward our tile floor. Thankfully, I quickly lunged for the plate and caught it. Unfortunately, the force of the catch caused the pie to slide very gracefully right out of the plate and splat onto the floor. Not to mention this was during dinner so everyone enjoyed food and entertainment!

    I once made a batch of delicious corn bread muffins to take to a family party…as I was taking them out of the oven my hand slipped and all the muffins ended up on the floor. I didn’t pick them up and take them because the 5 second rule didn’t apply to us that day. 🙂

    great question with some great stories! I was so hungry I poured my noodle soup into a big bowl without letting it cool down. the bowl was very full and as I was carrying it a bit spilled over one side onto my fingers, which freaked me out enough to spill it over to the other hand and fingers. I suffered burns across both of my hands, almost entirely. not fun, but now I am much more careful!

    One of my many kitchen mishaps is one night I was trying to make homemade tomato soup and I didn’t have an immersion blender so I put it in my regular blender and didn’t account for the heat of the soup. So of course as soon as I turned the blender on the soup exploded all over the kitchen.
