Fabulous Book Giveaway “WONDER” by R.J. Palacio

by Jamie

I know I mentioned earlier in the week that I would be taking this week off, and wouldn’t be posting anything new until next week…but, I just couldn’t help myself. This blog is about sharing amazing things with you all, and I just finished a fabulous, FABULOUS book that I couldn’t wait to tell you about. I’ve read some great books over the past six months and will be sharing all of them with you next month in my annual Wonderful Winter Reads post, but the book Wonder by R.J Palacio deserves a review post of its very own. I have noticed it floating around Goodreads over the past few weeks and put a copy on hold at the library. Then, on Christmas Day my mom gave a copy to me and all of my siblings. “This is required reading” she said. I figured it must be good. 🙂

Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a book about a sweet 10-year-old boy, August Pullman who has a very deformed face. His dear Mother has home schooled him in the past but feels it best for him to go to attend a regular school once he hits the 5th grade. The story of his ups and downs and interactions with classmates both kind and unkind is told through his eyes, and the eyes of those around him. He is a smart, endearing, tender soul that captivates the reader from the first few paragraphs. In short, it’s a story about kindness and amazing transformations. The author is brilliant and interjects many, many golden nuggets of wisdom throughout. I was reminded as I read it, that every single person can make a difference for good. Even the slightest act of kindness matters.

I loved this book, and have to agree with my mom. It definitely is “required reading”.  At least for the people living under this roof of mine. 🙂

I would love to give away a copy of Wonder to 5 lucky readers. To enter the giveaway just leave me a comment telling me one of your favorite books. You may enter from today until next Thursday January 2nd. The 5 winners will be announced Friday January 3rd. Good luck! Hope you are enjoying a nice winter holiday!

Loving Frank is one of my favorite books. As much as I read,it’s hard to pinpoint just one, but when I read Loving Frank, I was so shocked by the ending, then looked him up on the internet and learned that the book is somewhat historical fiction and the ending was a fact, I was blown away. Interesting reading!

I am a school teacher and I read a lot of children’s books. I’m currently reading the fourth book in the Percy Jackson series. My favorite Children’s books are the Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. My favorite adult book is They Poured Fire on us From the Sky Book by Alephonsion Deng. The Shadow Children series is a dystopia, about a boy who lives in hiding because the government says families may have only one child. The series takes you through his adventures in become free. They Poured Fire on us From the Sky is a biography from four of the list boys of Africa. It’s very eye opening to the turmoil that has and is going on.
