There were just so many needs to fill, every second of every day. How could I possibly fit a little time in for myself? Well, I thought. I am planning to brush my teeth everyday…I can at least count on that. And, ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you. I have never had cleaner teeth than in that year. Every day, I would shut my bedroom door, and brush my teeth for 5 luxuriously quite minutes. I would think calm thoughts, stare out the window and relax while my teeth got shiny clean. Now, you might think this sounds ridiculous, but it helped! It honestly did. Those 5 quiet minutes helped me manage the chaos better. It gave me the little boost I needed.
Fast forward 8 years and I find my life’s responsibilities have changed somewhat since those crazy days with newborn twins. I don’t change diapers anymore. I have a house full of teenagers, my oldest will graduate from high school in a few short months and these cute twins of mine go to school during the day. It’s still busy, oh man it is so busy…and it is going by way too fast.
Could I let you in on a little secret? I still feel overwhelmed. I guess that’s just something that comes along with being a mother, wife, sister, friend, blogger, etc… It still helps to take time out for myself. The good news is, I don’t have to count “brushing my teeth for 5 minutes” as one of those time out moments anymore! Thank goodness. Some days I actually carve out 20 minutes to read a book before my kids come barreling through the door after school. It’s luxurious.
So are these cookies. If you took a little time out of your crazy schedule to munch on a fabulous Milano cookie, perhaps in a nice, quiet, sunny spot, just sitting and thinking calm thoughts, I do believe your life would be happier. Soak up a little time for yourself! You are worth it!
These Orange Chocolate Cookies are my favorite. I could eat one every day and die a happy woman, truly.

I never seem to have enough hours in the day with 6 kids and a husband who I super busy at work and with his church responsibilities. The best thing that I do for myself is to make sure that I exercise every single day. Even if I can only squeeze in a brisk 30 minutes walk around the piano teacher’s neighborhood, I make sure that I don’t miss a day! It makes all the difference to me!
I have three small kids. Finding time for me is hard. After dinner is cleaned up and kids are in bed I finally sit down for awhile 🙂 I also try to exercise in the morning if the baby permits 🙂
I love to build things.
I work full time so the time that is all mine is my lunch break. I always bring some crochet project that I am working on and turn on Netflix and crochet to my little hearts content.
I love to sneak a little time here and there to read a book!!
I am a busy mom of twins too. Although they are 41 now! However, I know what you are talking about. My time out is riding my bicycle and line dancing!
Jamie, I am where you were 8 years ago. I have 7 kiddos ages 13yrs.-17mos. (no multiples though, a baby about every two years…) We homeschool, do a lot of volunteering, and spend time getting the kids to and from a few extra activities. I love it and wouldn’t want it any other way! My two oldest are huge helpers! Like you did, I take a few minutes a day to care for me, teeth included, take a deep breath and pray. When hubby is home, I love to bake goodies and sew lots of fun projects. Love your blog — thanks!
I love to sit down with a good book!
I make time to workout, and am training for a half marathon now! I also like to spend a few minutes reading at night before I turn the lights off.
I ‘relax’ and find time for myself by knitting for charities – I love knitting baby hats/blankets, or hats & scarves; knitting relaxes me.
