Sometimes do you feel like just being sloppy?
You know the kind of sloppy I’m talking about.
Leaving your clothes on the floor for a day or two (or ten).
Ignoring the pile of the dishes while you read a book.
Eating a big fat chocolate chip cookie instead of going to the gym.
You feel like this kind of sloppy…
sometimes?
Me too.
Sometimes,
I just don’t want to keep everything neat and tidy, prim and proper, full of vegetables, and perfectly organized.

PERFECTLY organized is overrated!

Sometimes I just want to take a break!
Ease on down a bit, if you catch my drift.
And then, after I’ve been sloppy for a spell….
Keeping things neat and tidy, prim and proper, full of vegetables, and SOMEWHAT organized…
PERFECTLY is something I will never obtain!
…doesn’t seem like such a burden.
Fresh energy, I guess.
I suppose that means being a bit sloppy
sometimes
is good for a gal.
Good.
In.
Deed.

I think you are going to love these Sloppy Joes!
The stars have all aligned, and I finally have a Sloppy Joe recipe I would make over and over again.
Hot diggidy dog.
It only took 3 tries…and 5 choice words. You know. Words like…”aw heck” and “darn”.These Sloppies are flavorful,
a bit tangy,
just a bit sweet and down right scrumptious.
Hope you love them!

Sloppy Joes
Time: 30 minutes to chop and cook + 1 hour to simmer
Yield: 10 sandwiches
Recipe created by Jamie Cooks It Up!
1 onion
1 green pepper
4 cloves garlic
1 T olive oil
Salt and Pepper
3 pounds ground beef
1 T Montreal Steak Seasoning
1 C ketchup
1 1/2 C Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce
3 T apple cider vinegar
1 t Worcestershire
1 t liquid smoke
3 T brown sugar
1/2 t chili powder
1 T water
1. Chop those veggies right on up.
2. Heat up a large skillet and add 1 T olive oil. Add your veggies and cover with the lid letting a bit of steam escape. Just put your lid on at an angle, folks. Cook for about 7 minutes, or until the veggies are soft.
3. Add your ground beef and 1 T Montreal Steak Seasoning. Grind a bit of salt and pepper over the top. Chop your beef all up with a spatula and let it brown.
4. Once your meat is browned add all the other ingredients to the pan. Stir them around to get it all mixed together. Let the hearty, beefy, slightly tangy, somewhat sweet and super flavorful mixture simmer on medium low for 1 hour. Those juices need time to get to know each other!
5. Serve on rolls or hamburger buns.
Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas.
Here’s to being Sloppy
sometimes!

  1. I made these too, for everyone to eat while we were moving my sister. They were loved by all!!! Some of the guys had 3 or 4 of them. I used Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Chipotle, for a different kick. Will make again!

  2. I made this tonight with your fluffy rolls. Both are DIVINE!!!!!! Thank you so much. FYI – I used ground turkey instead of beef and it was wonderful! Thanks for sharing your great recipes.

  3. We just had this tonight with oven fries and a salad. It was deemed “the best sloppy joe” of any we'd made. I followed the recipe almost to the letter (though I only did 1/3 of the recipe). We added a little extra ketchup and BBQ sauce, we subbed extra Worcestershire sauce for the liquid smoke and used a little extra chili powder. It came out great and I'm currently living proof as to why they are called “sloppy” joes.

  5. Jamie,
This looks delicious. Love the fact that it is spicy along with sweet. I love a spicy sloppy joe. Now if only I could get my S.O. to like it too. LOL!!! Gonna try this recipe the next time that I make sloppy joes.

Thanks for posting such yummy eats!

  6. Could you simmer it on low in a crock pot instead? We have some busy nights coming up and gees would be great if I could cook ahead and then throw in crock pot in afternoon and let them warm up. Think that would work?
